Within the framework of the Communication Management subject of the third year of the degree in Advertising and Public Relations at URJC, more than 150 students have presented as a final activity a field project to support non-governmental organizations and associations related to the field health communication.

The activity, which concluded last Friday, has been carried out throughout the second quarter. In that time, the students have developed a Corporate Communications Plan, Social Responsibility Plan and Visual Identity Manual, which had to be prepared after a research process on the image and notoriety of the organizations and the sector.

According to Luis M. Romero-Rodríguez and Bárbara Castillo-Abdul, professors of the subject, the main objective of this activity was to put students in contact with the practical reality of the profession, with real situations, making learning experiential. and significant. On the other hand, they assure that they wanted students to collaborate with these organizations, many of which do not have sufficient financial or human resources to be able to develop this type of project, so they aimed to "add a grain of sand" with the social responsibility of service to the community that the university has with its surroundings.

The teams, closely supervised by the teachers of the subject, had to present the results in the classroom, as a previous step to the formal delivery of these plans to the organizations. In several cases, there was even the presence of representatives of the entities, who were able to contribute and provide feedback on the work.

Among the entities benefiting from these collaboration projects are: Fundación Siempre Fuertes, Fundación Neuroblastoma, Association of Chronic Endometriosis Affected Women (ADAEC), Visual TEAF, Federation of Celiac Associations of Spain (FACE), AFEM Mental Health, Carena Association, Musicians for Health, Fundación Grandes Amigos, Bipolar Association of Madrid, Association in Defense of Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Care (ADANER), Doctors Without Borders (MSF), Kuné Dogs for Social Assistance, Rehabilitation Group for Native Fauna and its Habitat (GREFA), and the Health and Life Alternatives Association (ASAV).

One more step towards professional experience

Both teachers and students have assessed the experience as "very satisfactory" and an opportunity to apply the knowledge learned in the subject in a practical way. In addition, Professor Luis M. Romero-Rodríguez assures that this type of project allows future graduates to develop a 'portfolio' of experiences and establish contacts that will be useful for internships and entering the labor market. "Beyond the grade, the students were motivated to learn, even from their possible mistakes," concludes Romero-Rodríguez.
