Today, May 17, the day against discrimination against the LGBTI community is celebrated throughout the world. The Rey Juan Carlos University has decided to join this cause by adhering, along with thirty other universities, to the new Diversity University Network.

The International Day Against LGTBIphobia is celebrated on May 17 to commemorate the depathologization of homosexuality by the World Health Organization, which took place on May 17, 1990. Its main objective is to make visible all kinds of actions that serve to denounce the discrimination suffered by lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, intersex and others with dissident sexualities and identities, as well as make clear the need for the advancement of rights.

In this sense, the URJC has decided to make public, precisely on this day, its adherence to the new Network of Universities for Diversity, a coordination space that will work together for the inclusive approach to diversity in the Spanish university system.

According to the Vice-Rector for Planning and Strategy, Andrés Martínez, "the URJC, with its adherence to the RUD, is committed to working for an inclusive university for all people, especially in the field of sexual and gender diversity, and the diversity by origin and culture. With this, the URJC is articulating the commitments to equality and human rights contained in its URJC 2020-2025 Strategic Plan”.

With this affiliation, the URJC takes a new step to respond to the concerns of its university community and aligns itself more and more with the society of the XNUMXst century.
