The laureate is an eminence in the field of health promotion and education in Latin America. The dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Carmen Gallardo, will be in charge of delivering the 'laudatio'.

This Friday, May 20, the Rey Juan Carlos University will add a new honorary doctor to its faculty. On this occasion, the institution wishes to honor the career of Dr. Hiram V. Arroyo Acevedo, one of the leading figures in health promotion and education in Latin America.

Prof. Dr. Hiram V. Arroyo Acevedo has been awarded for his work on several occasions, both in Latin America and in Spain. In our country he has been recognized with the 2017 Health Culture Award, granted by the Health Education Foundation (FUNDADEPS) and the 2006 Dr. Manuel de Tolosa Latour Institutional Award, from the Ibero-American Association of Medicine and School Health and University, in La Rioja.

Hiram V. Arroyo, of Puerto Rican nationality, is Professor of Health Promotion, Health Education, Public Health and International Health in the Department of Social Sciences, of the Faculty of Biosocial Sciences and Graduate School of Public Health, of the Campus of Medical Sciences, from the University of Puerto Rico.

Since 2007, Arroyo has been director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center for Training and Research in Health Promotion and Health Education attached to the University of Puerto Rico. In addition, since 2009 he has been the Coordinator of the Ibero-American Network of Health-Promoting Universities (RIUPS).

On the other hand, since 1996 he has been Coordinator of the Inter-American Consortium of Universities and Professional Academic Training Centers in Health Promotion and Health Education (CIUEPS). To which is added that, Since 2000 he has been Regional Director for Latin America of the International Union for Health Promotion and Health Education (UIPES / ORLA).

The investiture of Hiram V. Arroyo as the new Doctor Honoris Causa by the URJC will take place this Friday, May 20, at 12 in the morning. It will be held in the assembly hall of the Management building on the Alcorcón campus and can be followed by TVURJC. The event will be chaired by the rector, Javier Ramos López, who will be accompanied by the general secretary, Pilar Trinidad, and the director of the Department of Medical Specialties and Public Health, Ángel Gil de Miguel. In addition, the assistance of medical authorities and health representatives of the Community of Madrid, as well as Latin American academic and health authorities, is expected.
