For the second consecutive year, José Luis Martínez Almeida has visited the Rey Juan Carlos University to participate in the summer course 'New challenges for freelancers and entrepreneurs', for which prominent personalities from politics and of the business world.

The mayor has recognized that the biggest challenge for a freelancer at the moment "is to get ahead, because the situation is very complicated, but you are the engine of society". This year in Madrid six new freelancers have been registered per day, which means 2000 more than in the previous year. Almeida hopes that this figure will continue to grow and for this he assures that the council is adopting measures such as the creation of the Municipal Council of Self-Employed Workers, “an organization so that you can transmit your concerns to the City Council and in which I encourage you to participate. We have also opened a circular economy center and coworking spaces.” The mayor has stressed the importance of digitization so that companies "gain size and solidity and can face the difficult times that lie ahead, for that you can count on this City Council".

Along with the mayor was the president of ATA, Lorenzo Amor, who recognized that the agreement with the Government to reform the contribution system for self-employed workers is "taken with pins". “We are on Friday, the Government's forecast is to take the law to the Council of Ministers on Tuesday and the text has not yet been passed to us. We have done our homework, we have convened our executive committees for next Monday, but without a text we cannot approve the agreement. The ball is no longer in our court."

Attendance record

The course, which has been held in person at the university headquarters in Quintana and has also been streamed, has had an average of one hundred students a day, reaching a record number of four hundred attendees last Tuesday, during Alberto Núñez Feijóo's presentation.

Both the president of ATA and the director of the course, Javier Fernández Arribas, have transmitted to the vice-rector Mercedes del Hoyo their wish that a new edition be held next year. The mayor of Madrid has confirmed that, if held, she will participate again as a speaker.
