The URJC once again sees its efforts to be more and more sustainable endorsed. This time, the Rankin 'Times Higher Education Impact' is the one that brings the good news for the university. The Rey Juan Carlos University is the only university in Spain present in the 17 United Nations SDGs analysed.

This ranking is the only one that evaluates universities in relation to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It uses calibrated indicators to provide a complete and balanced comparison in four areas: research, administration, outreach and teaching.

The URJC, thus, is among the top 600 universities globally, out of a total of 1406 from 16 countries that have participated in the ranking, a figure that is significantly higher than the 1.195 in the previous edition.

For Diana Benito, deputy vice-rector for Strategy, "that a Madrid public university is an international benchmark in areas such as research, administration, dissemination and teaching is great news, especially with the importance of sustainability in all its dimensions (environmental, social, governance), etc.”

The breakdown of the ranking shows that URJC is the only university in Madrid to contribute to SDGs No. 2 ('Zero Hunger'), 6 ('Clean Water and Sanitation'), 12 ('Responsible Comsuption and Production'), 14 ('Life below Water') and 15 ('Life on Land'). In addition, the Rey Juan Carlos University ranks 90th in the world in SDG No. 12 ('Responsible Consumption and Production'), being the second nationally and having notably improved its position compared to 2021. The University maintains its global position in SDGs nº8 ('Decent Work and Economic Growth'), 9 ('Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure'), 10 ('Reduced Inequalities'), 11 ('Sustainable Cities and Communities') and 16 ('Life and Land') .

Second regional position

The URJC is in the world position 401-600 out of 1.406 universities and is in the second position in the region (including public and private universities), together with the University of Alcalá, the Complutense University, ESIC and the Polytechnic University of Madrid.

“We are lucky to have researchers and people dedicated to studying in these areas. The result is very powerful. This research is reverted to students and society and to society through the transfer of knowledge”, explains Diana Benito.

On the other hand, the URJC remains one more edition among the 1.000 best universities in the world according to the Shanghai ranking.

Rey Juan Carlos University hopes to improve results in Greenmetric

After the good news from 'THE IMPACT', URJC hopes to improve results in the next edition of Greenmetric, in which it is positioned among the 90 most sustainable universities in the world.

The commitment to sustainability of the Rey Juan Carlos University is global. Proof of this is the resounding success of the organization of the CRUE Sustainability Conference that took place in Aranjuez last July.

Sustainability is one of the basic axes of action for the Rey Juan Carlos University. The institution approaches it from the URJC 2030 strategic project, framed in the 2025 Strategic Plan that defines the pillars of the university for the present and the near future.
