The Rey Juan Carlos University is a finalist for the 2022 Open Education Award for Excellence convened by Open Education Global, one of the main associations that promotes open knowledge worldwide.
This interdisciplinary course, framed in the CRESCEnt project (Mind the Gap in media coverage and strategic communication in case of security threats) and co-financed by the Erasmus+ Program of the European Union, addresses the challenge of raising awareness of current disinformation through the increase in the skills of journalists and institutional spokespersons in the field of security and defense.
Nearly 1000 people of up to 22 different nationalities have already participated in the MOOC, developed in collaboration with the “Mihai Viteazul” National Intelligence Academy (MVNIA) – Romania, the Cyberimaginary Research Group of the Rey Juan Carlos University – Spain, Kentro Meleton Asfaleias (KEMEA), Center for Security Studies – Greece and Ministry of the Interior Social Affairs, Information and Public Relations Directorate (MAI-DIRP) – Romania.
Along the same lines, the DOMINOES project is also being carried out, which addresses the digital transformation that the news media ecosystem is undergoing. This project seeks to provide educational personnel with digital skills, so that they can counteract and detect the propaganda or manipulation that exists on the Internet.
Lastly, to teach students to combat misinformation, on October 26 at the Fuenlabrada campus, the VII Conference on Digital Communication will be held, which can be followed both online and in person and recognized with 0.25 ECTS.
