The Fuenlabrada campus hosts this week the II Conference on Aesthetics and Politics, organized by the Vice-Rectorate for University Extension thanks to the aid for congresses and seminars for the 2022-2023 academic year.

The event, which will take place tomorrow, Tuesday the 18th and Wednesday the 19th, consists of several presentations by professors and academics from different universities and several professionals in the field of communication to talk about the electoral debates and speeches, from the political and television scene.

More specifically, the day of the 18th will begin with the welcome of the Vice-rector for University Extension of the URJC, Mercedes del Hoyo. Next, several teachers from the URJC, the UNED and the University of Valencia will address the issue of electoral debates, from the point of view of their legal regulation and their role in society.

After this contextual framework, the second paper will focus on the relationship between the debates and television and their staging. To do this, several journalists from the news service will intervene who can talk about this reality from a closer view.

On Wednesday 19, the first theme of the conference will be the scenery and aesthetics in speeches and electoral debates, also by professors from the URJC and UNED. This exhibition will be completed with the last presentation of the event, where several image consultants in the field of politics will intervene. Thus, consultants and journalists will tell their professional experience materializing the most theoretical concepts.

According to Clara Souto, director of the Conference, this event has been very well received "because of the great interest it arouses, by combining the legal field with the journalistic field and attracting students from both branches." The event, which has had to change its venue due to the large number of registrations, will take place in the Assembly Hall of the administration building on the Fuenlabrada campus.

The main objective of these conferences is to address “the change that has brought about the break with bipartisanship and the appearance of these new political actors. Understanding the change from the legal point of view of regulation, but also from the point of view of communication and image”, summarizes Souto. To do this, "we have the presence of powerful people from both disciplines who are capable of addressing this paradigm shift in the Spanish political framework."
