To develop this prevention system, the Observatory is carrying out an investigation of a series of stressful life events (SVE) in homeless people in the city of Madrid. The SVE can be, depending on the vital moment: experiences of bullying, not being able to face a mortgage, abuse in childhood, etc. Thus, the system will include, in addition to the contributions of the experts, the vision of the importance that the protagonists themselves give to one or another EVS as catalysts for their homelessness.
The objective of this tool is to support Primary Care Social Work professionals in detecting the risk that a vulnerable person may face of ending up homeless, depending on whether they are experiencing or have experienced certain stressful situations throughout their lives. life.
This would help to know which people would need specific social protection measures to avoid residential exclusion in the future. It would be a bet of the Welfare State for the prevention of situations outside of social and human rights and in favor of the dignity of the person.
In the words of the director of the Observatory for the Analysis and Visibility of Social Exclusion and of this research, Silvia Giménez Rodríguez, the project consists of “putting the dignity of the most vulnerable people into practice, following the Observatory's motto, 'Investigate to transform'”.
According to a report prepared by the federation of associations and help centers for street and homeless people FACIAM, in 2021, there were at least 1.600 homeless people in Madrid, of which 650 were homeless.
