U Motorsport is the automotive team of the Rey Juan Carlos University, under the umbrella of the Vice President for Innovation, its members build single-seater racing cars every year that compete in different regional, national and European events. The two most recent single-seaters developed by the team have a new appointment, the 'Madrid Motor Student' which is being held today, Thursday, at the Jarama circuit.

The event is a creation of COGITIM, an entity that brings together graduates from various branches of engineering. 13 teams from 9 Madrid universities, involving a total of 500 people, will participate in a day of exhibition, competition, debates and round tables.

“We are going to take both cars, one (the 2022 one) will go to exhibition and the other to competition, in which we will do a fast lap,” explains Sara Mayo Ranilla, a third-year Mechanical Engineering student.

Several companies from the automotive sector and other sectors are invited to the event and it is expected that 2.000 Madrid students of Vocational Training (Technology branch) and Technological Baccalaureate will attend, who will be able to attend all the programmed activities, among which the Technical Seminar "Talent, the key to success for the Automotive sector", and access to a Technological Classroom, where all Madrid universities will show you their STEM degree training offer.

In addition, this year the fuels used by the single-seaters and motorcycles that participate in the event are 100% sustainable, since they are biofuels. 'Madrid Motor Student' is celebrated with the support of the Community of Madrid.

A “family” at university

As Sara Mayor explains, who hopes to dedicate herself to the motor world in the future, being part of U Motorsport allows you to go beyond what a university degree offers. “It is an experience that we live in all areas. Not only with the cars, but also because of the fact that we all work together and see how out of nowhere we make a project a reality. It goes beyond applying what you learn in the race. You take out a family. We share competitions and experience many things together”, indicates this URJC student.

In the team there are mainly engineering students, but you can also find people from Audiovisual Communication, ADE and other degrees.

For the vice-rector for Innovation, Fernando García Muiña, "thanks to the project, group work skills and technical skills on autonomous driving and sustainable propulsion systems are developed." García Muiña adds that "U Motorsport gives a plus in work organization capacity and provides the opportunity to collaborate and compete with other teams from multiple universities at a national and European level”.

The team selects members several times a year. The last time was in September and, most likely, registration will open in a few months. They are looking for people who want to be part of a team that develops competitive industrial projects. The only thing they ask for is a commitment to work and a desire to learn.
