The festivity of All Saints arrives and, with it, a few days to dedicate to different hobbies. Without a doubt, one of the favorites by Spanish men and women is reading.

The Rey Juan Carlos University has selected three recently published works that range from a book dedicated to an artistic installation to an analysis of the treatment of science and technology in audiovisual fiction, passing through a guide to gamification in education.

'The Monster and the Fossil', by José Manuel Ruiz, professor in the Audiovisual Communication and Advertising Area and multimedia artist. It is a book-catalogue on the teacher's own artistic work, which, in this case, he acts as editor. According to the publisher's review, "this artist's work shows what is not foreseeable in the act of creation, it reminds us that it is necessary to get out of order for artistic realization, that in art it is fundamental to deviate towards what is not It has no measure or regulation.” The book is made up of photographs of the work and texts by artists such as Fernando Castro Flórez, Paulina León Crespo, César Portilla and José Manuel Ruiz himself. The book is openly available at the URJC Library.

'Science and Technology in Spanish Audiovisual Fiction'. This work collects a study directed by the professor of the Journalism area, Pablo Francescutti. In it, after analyzing the content of 11 Spanish films and five series released between 2015 and 2020, the first conclusion of the research is that science and technology have a "meager presence in the audiovisual scene, especially considering that during During that period, 1.503 feature films were produced in Spain (data from the Ministry of Culture and Sports) and 296 series (according to the European Audiovisual Observatory)”, they point out from the editorial. Francescutti himself, in an interview, has indicated that "the insignificant size of the corpus identified proves the scant appeal that science fiction works and scientific thrillers set in Spain have for the film and television industry."

'Introduction to gamification or gamification (in education)', by the professor of the area of Computer Languages and Academic Coordinator of the Educational Technologies Program of the Center for Educational Innovation and Digital Education (CIED), Oriol Borrás. The objective of this work is to constitute an introductory tool to the use of games in education, starting from the basis that the game is something that accompanies us from childhood throughout life and that, through them "we can have fun , motivate us, get excited or, why not, improve behaviors towards a way of life, for example, healthier or use them to learn in a different way”, according to what can be read in a review of the work. This book is available at the URJC Library.
