On December 19 and 20, an online seminar will be held under the title 'Society and the History of the Present Time', in which topics of current and historical relevance will be addressed.

From 9:00 a.m. on Monday to 14:00 p.m. on Tuesday, a total of eighteen presentations will address the most important events that have taken place in the history of the present time.

The second edition of this congress lands at the URJC by several researchers from the URJC Santander Presdeia Ibero-American Chair of Excellence, which emerged in 2009 and studies the migratory processes between Spain and America from 1492 to the present, with special emphasis on the contemporary stage.

With the aim of transmitting the results of their research to the university community, this group of researchers will explain very diverse topics: from Hitler's drug use, to current extreme right-wing terrorism, the balance of the Arab spring or the current war between Russia and Ukraine.

“These are very new issues, for example, until recently we did not know that Hitler used drugs, and he was given morphine, heroin, opiates… Thanks to the investigations that have been carried out, we have been able to find out all this information. In this congress we want to talk about all these new advances”, points out the researcher.

"The first edition of these conferences was very well received, which is why it was decided to propose a second edition with the same theme and address issues of social and political relevance," explains Miguel Íñiguez, professor of Contemporary History at the Rey Juan Carlos University.

“We hope that attendees have an overview of today's society. Create debate, share positions and exchange ideas among attendees”, explains Miguel Íñiguez. "Specifically, through my presentation I intend to analyze what is the position that Russia is adopting in its conflict with Ukraine, understand why Russia has invaded Ukraine, which has happened in the periods from 1991 to 2013 and from 2014 to 2022, the intervention of the United States or the occupation of Donbas”, points out Íñiguez.

“I would like the event to be well received by the students, if so, we will consider holding a third edition” the professor ends, adding that all those who attend will be able to request a certificate of attendance at the end of the day.
