The Spanish Network of Health Promoting Universities (REUPS) manages to exceed the proposed objective with the help of several Spanish universities, including the URJC.

Last October, in commemoration of the Day of Healthy Universities, the #Challenge10000 blood donations was carried out thanks to the participation of many Spanish universities, members of REUPS.

For its part, the Rey Juan Carlos University has contributed a total of 330 effective donations, despite the fact that 412 people came to donate. From the URJC Healthy University program they wanted to point out "the good reception that this campaign had and thank the participation of all the people who offered to be donors." In addition, they have taken the opportunity to "encourage to continue doing so in the next campaigns, in which we hope that new supportive and committed people will join".

On this occasion, the #Reto10000 lasted the entire month of October, unlike last year, which only lasted one week. That is why this time it has exceeded expectations with a total of 10.371 donations. The impact of this figure translates into being able to help 31.113 people, since each blood donation can save up to three lives. Among the donors, 4.400 did so for the first time, which is a reflection of the awareness that young people have on these issues.

Achieving this objective has been possible thanks to the coordination and management of 30 national universities. Among them, there are centers distributed throughout all parts of Spain, be it Madrid, Almería, Burgos, Huelva, Cantabria, Zaragoza, Vitoria or Valencia, among other provinces.

From REUPS they appreciate the participation of all the universities and the Blood Transfusion Centers, which have had to organize together to make the donations in the different campuses. As its main objective, REUPS hopes that this challenge will be established in the coming years and continue to collect the solidarity of thousands and thousands of people who save lives with a small gesture.
