After a brief journey, (it started operating in 2017) the Sports Studies Center (CED) of the URJC has been among the best in the world in this field, according to the Shanghai ranking that deals with this area of knowledge.

In addition to being among the 300 research centers on sport and physical exercise worldwide, the ranking places the URJC among the best 15 Spanish universities, out of a total of 52 (public and private), in this field.

As explained by Fernando del Villar, director of the CED and dean of the new Faculty of Education and Sports Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies, "it is a source of pride to appear in this ranking, taking into account the short history of the Center, a mere 5 years" . The good result obtained places this subject as the 5th field of knowledge of the URJC, which is among the 300 best positions in its category, according to Shanghai. This has allowed the URJC to be present in the Top 2019 universities in said ranking since 1000.

The classification recognizes the research produced by the center in its 3 priority lines that address the relationship of sport with health and education: physical exercise and chronic pathologies, sports training and physical education within the educational system.

International recognition comes at the time when Del Villar occupies the presidency of the Conference of Deans of Physical Activity and Sports Sciences.

The creation of the new Faculty will give more visibility to studies related to Sports and Education promoted by the construction approved by the Governing Council of "a new building, located on the Fuenlabrada campus, in which we will have very appropriate and innovative. These new endowments will place us in the first level of Sports Sciences in Spain. They will have fully integrated classrooms, laboratories and sports facilities” explains Del Villar. The works will begin after the summer and this new building is expected to be underway for the 24-25 academic year.
