Making women's work visible in all fields is essential in the fight for real equality. With the aim of highlighting the scientific work of its researchers, ESCET is going to publish on February 9, 10 and 11, coinciding with the Day of Women and Girls in Science, more than fifty sheets where the scientists are introduced and a brief discussion of their fields of study is made. All the information can be consulted in this link.

Among the reasons for carrying out this initiative, explained by María Prieto Álvaro (Botanist and member of the Equality Commission of the Biodiversity and Conservation Area) and Pilar Hernández Hidalgo (Microbiologist and Deputy Director of Communication, Promotion and Sustainable Development of ESCET) is “providing models so that young women can study these subjects without complexes and that they see that in these sectors there are also other women and they will not be alone”.

The leading researchers in the sheets are dedicated to all kinds of scientific disciplines, from biology, through materials engineering, electronics, analytical chemistry or chemical engineering, among others. “There are more women in the healthcare fields, but in these areas (STEM) the visibility of women scientists is scarce”, the researchers pointed out.

María Prieto and Pilar Hernández point out that, although there is a certain balance in the departments in terms of the number of men and women, "the imbalance arises in access to management positions and in postdoctoral research" and is accentuated as the degree progresses. researcher.

With this initiative, ESCET wants to contribute to the visibility of its scientists so that more and more girls and young women opt for science and technology.

An effort to continue walking towards real equality at the URJC that materializes in this initiative to make a part of the university's scientists visible.
