Emilia Campos has become one of the more than 280 young journalists who have obtained their first employment contract in a media outlet through the Primer Empleo program. In 2022 there were 59 recent graduates who submitted their candidacy to this APM program, which is celebrating its twenty-third edition. As usual, the finalists had to pass a written test and a personal interview.

“I will enjoy a year working in one of the leading Spanish news agencies. I welcome the opportunity with the desire and enthusiasm to continue learning the trade, and with the confidence that curiosity and perseverance will mark my career”, affirms Emilia Campos. “I am also, without a doubt, grateful to both the University and the Association for the knowledge and the opportunity they have given me to fulfill a dream”.

At the beginning of 2023, Emilia Campos and the other five selected journalists will gradually join their jobs in the six Madrid-based media outlets. This year the EFE Agency, La Sexta, Cadena SER, El Mundo, ABC and Servimedia have been chosen.

“This program is an excellent opportunity to start a professional career in a difficult sector for young people, because it allows them to access important media. The level of the candidates is very high”, points out Cristina Martínez, head of the URJC Employment Bank.

The requirements to qualify for the First Job program, which takes place during the last four-month period of each year, include having graduated in Journalism in the previous course at one of the universities of the Community of Madrid, and being under 30 years of age. For undergraduate students, the APM also promotes a Summer Internship program.
