This afternoon there is a cinema on the Madrid campus. The URJC-Flix Olé Spanish Film Chair celebrates a new cinephorum. In this case, the film 'El Cebo' directed by Ladislao Vajda, responsible for films such as 'Marcelino Pan y Vino' or 'My uncle Jacinto', “very appreciated by the public and critics in the 50s, will be screened. XNUMXth century”, comments Mario Rajas, director of the URJC-FlixOlé chair and professor at FCCOM.

'El Cebo', he explains, “is a wonderful thriller that captivates because of its story, its rhythm, the way it has to capture the viewer and keep them tense. It is a very modern film that at the same time brings together the best of classic film noir. Behind the police investigation that forms the backbone of the narrative are a host of fascinating characters, scenes, and details of Vajda's direction."

According to Mario Rajas, 'El Cebo' has been chosen because, “it fabulously represents the excellent police, noir or thriller films that were made in our country in the 50s and that are unknown to the students”.

In those years, genre titles such as 'The Red Fish', 'The Eyes Leave Traces', 'Criminal Brigade, 'A Glass of Whiskey' or 'Apartado de Correos 1.001' appeared, among others, which, according to Professor Rajas “are masterpieces that have nothing to envy to those produced in the US or France in those same years”.

After the screening of 'El Cebo', a discussion will be held in which the film will be analyzed from the point of view of aspects such as the script, production or editing and will place it in the context of the time. In addition, "they will recommend equally exciting movies from the period to the students," says Mario Rajas.

The debate is open for the students to intervene and share their own reflections.

the cinema does not stop

After 'El Cebo', the next film forums will be 'El camino' by Ana Mariscal and 'Juguetes rotos' by Manuel Summers. In turn, on March 2, the 'Fantaterror Seminar' will take place in Fuenlabrada “where we will screen two essential films from this trend of our 70s cinema: 'Walpurgis Night' and 'Do not desecrate the sleep of the dead '” announces Mario Rajas.

A new opportunity to discover unknown jewels of Spanish cinema, thanks to the URJC-FlixOlé chair.
