Sexual and affective education continues to be a pending issue in the society in which we live, especially among its younger members. It is enough to look at the headlines of the last days or weeks to realize this.

With the aim of shedding light on the situation of this type of training in countries such as Spain, France, Malta, Italy, Austria and Portugal, this Thursday is the conference 'Prevention of emotional and sexual abuse in young people'. The event takes place at the Manuel Becerra headquarters (09:30) and can also be followed via streaming.

The objective, says María Ávila Bravo-Villasante, professor in the area of Moral Philosophy and researcher in the PREVEX project, which aims to update the knowledge of universities in matters such as sexual and affective violence and develop resources for the continuous training of professionals of education, is "to show attendees the results we are obtaining".

Hand in hand with different international experts involved in PREVEX, the state of affective-sexual education in the member countries will be analyzed, the needs of each country in this matter will be reported, a series of resource kits will be presented (part led by the URJC ) for educators and young people, and the creation of a free platform will be announced to make access to these resources easier.

The seminar is aimed mainly at primary and secondary school educators, but also at social work professionals and university students.

For María Ávila, after completing three of the four phases of the project, “There is no sexual or affective-sexual education in the countries we have analyzed. In Spain there is a Law that gives us an interpretative and legal framework, more powerful than in other European countries. There is more and more violence that has to do with inequality.”

“No work is done on sexual violence, the great sexual reference for minors is pornography. How do you explain equality to a boy or girl when they have a universe of humiliation within their reach? Vexatious and inegalitarian behaviors are being normalized and they replicate them”, indicates the URJC teacher.

In this sense, the team of researchers from the Rey Juan Carlos University has been in charge of preparing resource kits for educators on affective-sexual education, which they will explain during the conference, "they are packs for young people and educators with information on topics that they are not working in schools or institutes neither in Spain nor in some of the project countries. There are many young people who do not have access to serious and scientific sexual education”, points out María Ávila, who, together with Rut Bermejo, a professor in the area of Political Science and Administration and Principal Investigator at PREVEX, represents the URJC in this initiative. .

An opportunity to learn about an ambitious project in which the Rey Juan Carlos University collaborates with the aim of contributing to combat violence and sexual inequality.
