The Rey Juan Carlos University participates in two events organized by the European Commission in which the new training modalities based on 'microcredentials'. The URJC has been the only Spanish university that has participated in these forums.

The vice-rector for International Relations, María Luisa Humanes Humanes has participated, on behalf of the URJC, in various events of the European Year of Competences, an initiative of the European Commission to "give a new impetus to lifelong learning, training people and companies to contribute to the ecological and digital transitions, supporting innovation and competitiveness", according to what can be read on the official website of the program.

The vice-chancellor participated in a forum organized by the Instituto Cervantes that constituted a discussion on "the articulation and development of these new educational formats," she explains.

In this forum, in addition to the representative of the URJC, the MEPs Alicia Homs, vice-president of the Commission for Employment and Social Affairs of the European Parliament, of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats; and Rosa Estarás, members of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, of the Group of the European People's Party. On behalf of Finnova, Patricia Tejada (a URJC graduate), head of the area of ​​'vocational training', Erasmus+ and training and youth, and Pablo Barrios, head of the area of ​​Projects in Fields of Cultural Industries.

Humanes conveyed the position of the URJC and EULIST on this new training model 'throughout life', which is a challenge and which “forces us to be more flexible and create a training proposal that is not exclusive to the academic field, and transform how education is conceived”.

In this sense, the URJC has already traveled some distance, thanks to the work of the Office of the Vice President for Continuing Education.

During her stay in Brussels, Humanes was also interviewed by Canal Europa about this new educational model, in which she was able to express the point of view of the Rey Juan Carlos University on the subject.

'Microcredentials' constitute one of the most important educational projects currently being developed within the European Union. A flexible and transversal training, aimed at equipping students with skills in areas related to ecological and digital transitions.
