Through an agreement signed this Thursday, a student and a professor from Latin American countries will be eligible for these grants to carry out their postgraduate studies at the Rey Juan Carlos University.

The rector, Javier Ramos, and the Secretary General of the Organization of Ibero-American States for Education, Science, and Culture (OEI), Maríano Jabonero, have signed an agreement that will allow Latin American students and teachers to carry out doctoral studies at the URJC .

Specifically, through this agreement, two scholarships for junior and senior researchers are launched. The first lasts 3 years and is intended for students who have completed their bachelor's and master's degrees at an Ibero-American university in a country other than Spain and wish to begin their doctoral studies at the URJC.

The endowment of this scholarship is 19.631 euros as annual remuneration. In addition, the OEI will provide the scholarship holder with the amount of 900 euros each year to help finance the trip from his country to Spain.

On the other hand, a scholarship is also called for senior researchers: teachers, under 45 years of age, who work in Ibero-American universities. These scholarships will have a duration of 4 years. During the first year, the scholarship holders will develop their activities at the URJC, receiving during this period the same benefits as in the junior scholarship. During years 2, 3 and 4, the scholarship holder will carry out his academic and research work at his home university and will carry out a three-month stay at the URJC each year with the aim of continuing the preparation of his doctoral thesis.

In addition, the amount of 19.631 euros will be paid to the student in the first year. During years 2, 3 and 4, the OEI will pay the doctoral student the amount of 2.535 euros as remuneration to cover accommodation and living expenses. The beneficiary of the scholarship will also have an annual endowment of 900 euros to cover the trip from their country to Spain.

The agreement is part of the Paulo Freire + (PF+) program, an OEI initiative that offers doctoral scholarships for Ibero-American graduates and non-doctoral university professors who want to start their doctoral studies at another university in a country in the region other than their own. the one in which they completed their previous studies. The agreement is valid for 4 years from the moment the agreement is signed.

In addition to the rector and the general secretary, the vice-rector for Postgraduate Studies, Luis Cayuela, and the director of Higher Education and Science of the OEI, Ana Capilla, participated in the event, held this Thursday in Madrid.
