This Tuesday, the Rey Juan Carlos University joined the global 'ParkingDay' initiative, with this campaign proposing alternative uses for parking spaces currently dedicated to cars. “The objectives have been met. We have made visible the need to reduce emissions, we have been able to enjoy the spaces temporarily taken away from cars with proposals that result in improving the well-being of citizens," says Consuelo Iriarte, director of the Green Office of the Rey Juan Carlos University, service that has been in charge of organizing this event.
The activity took place on the Fuenlabrada Campus, specifically at the zebra crossing between the pedestrian walkway and the access to the metro.
The Green Office has proposed a series of activities based on the game, with the motto '+GESTURE-SPEND'. Among these activities, Consuelo Iriarte explains, “We have generated a space for culture and art. With a group of students who proposed a dance and a theatrical improvisation proposal by the URJC group.”
In addition, a Gymkhana of ephemeral architecture has been created with proposals to transform the parking space using recycled materials. It was open to students of all degrees. The initiative has had “a lot of participation, with great prominence from the students. “People liked taking part in both the short activities and the gymkhana”
The URJC's 'Parking Day' was held within the framework of the European Sustainable Mobility Week.
