Newsroom

In this first edition, four speakers from industry, administration and academia have presented papers related to the achievement of the SDGs from their fields. Gabriel Novela, from the Talgo foundation, explained what the social responsibility of a company consists of and its relationship with the SDGs. Enrique Andivia, researcher at the UCM, focused on how the SDGs are necessary in the context of the climate crisis we are experiencing. Silvia María García spoke about the projects that are being carried out at the Madrid City Council, in relation to changing eating habits in young people, such as the so-called Food Wave. Finally, Rosario Toril explained how the environmental education carried out at CENEAM is important for the ecological transition.

Raise awareness about the SDGs in grades

After the presentations there was a round table with delegates and degree coordinators of the degrees from the Higher School of Experimental Sciences and Technology (ESCET). In the debate, the need for conferences like these, for more transversal training that allows raising awareness about the SDGs and also to talk about them specifically in the different subjects of the degree, has been highlighted. The event was very well received, with a total of 186 attendees from all ESCET degrees.

On this day, the poster contest 'Promote the SDGs from your degree' was also held, in which 14 posters from both science and engineering degrees were presented and are still on display in the hall of classroom 3 of the Campus from Móstoles, where they will remain until next week.

After their presentation at the conference by the students who had prepared them, two first prizes were awarded, one to a science poster, specifically one of those presented by students of the degree in Food Science and Technology; and another on engineering, specifically the poster presented by students of the double degree in Energy Engineering and Environmental Engineering. Three second prizes have also been awarded, one for the poster of the Environmental Engineering students and two in the science category, for the posters presented by students of the Degree in Water Resources and another for the posters of the Degree in Food Science and Technology.

The conference has been organized by the ESCET Management and has had the financial support of the Vice-Rector's Office for Quality and Strategy. This, through the URJC2030 Project and the Equality and Diversity Units, wants to support the development of training, dissemination and awareness activities, from any field of knowledge, that have a direct relationship with the Sustainable Development Goals and a clear perspective. of genre.
