Following the spirit of the 'Ramón y Cajal Research Year 2022-2025' declared by the Government, the URJC, through its Faculty of Health Sciences (FCS), organizes an entire week of activities to know and recognize the life and work of the most important scientist in the History of Spain.

Through workshops, conferences and visits, the FCS wants to address with this 'Cajal week', which begins today, Friday, October 20, the multifaceted personality of the Nobel Prize winner who stood out in numerous aspects of his life.

As the vice dean of Research and Infrastructure, Paloma Barjola Valero, and the vice dean of International Relations and University Extension, Alicia Cuesta Gómez, point out, “Ramón y Cajal is a highly renowned character in scientific fields, but with many facets that are not so well known. He is a great illustrator, photographer and writer, as well as a person who dedicated himself to physical exercise.”

In order to show the full breadth of the figure of Santiago Ramón y Cajal, activities have been scheduled that include everything from learning how to dissect a brain to knowing how a stereoscopic camera works, through talks on the influence of the Nobel Prize on scientific fiction, among other aspects.

As the organizers explain, “Ramón y Cajal is a clear reference in any Faculty of Health Sciences, he contributed in many areas and those who attend the activities will learn many varied things and will have fun in environments that, although scientific , they are going to be much more relaxed than usual.”

The activities are aimed mainly at Health Sciences students, although they are open to the entire university community and even outside it. All activities are free. Some are already complete.

The inauguration of the 'Cajal Week' of the FCS will take place in the Assembly Hall of the Management Building of the Alcorcón campus and will be led by the dean, Carlos Goicoechea García and the professor, Héctor Fernández García, curator of the initiative and one of its promoters.
