The Rey Juan Carlos University and the Technische Hoschule Lübeck organize the '7th Annual Madrid Conference on Austrian Economics'. The event will serve to pay tribute to the professor of Political Economy at the URJC and the main reference of this school of economic thought in Spain, Jesús Huerta de Soto.

On October 26 (Madrid Campus, the Rey Juan Carlos University and the Technische Hoschule Lübeck organize an important meeting in which some of the world's leading experts in the Austrian school of Economics will meet.

Professors and academics from countries such as the United States, Germany, France, Italy, Great Britain and Poland will give presentations on major economic topics.

Among the issues that will be addressed are, as pointed out by Professor Miguel Ángel Alonso, member of the scientific committee of the congress and co-director of the Master in Economics at the Austrian School of the URJC, subjects such as “money, inflation, types of interest, entrepreneurship, theory of capital, property rights, free exchanges, harmful effects of interventionism, economic cycles, etc.

The Austrian school of economics is based on the concept that social phenomena result from the motivations and actions of individuals. It has been characterized by its harsh criticism of neoclassical, Marxist, Keynesian and monetarist economic theories and can be considered one of the theories on which the free market is based.

The Congress, which begins tomorrow and now reaches its VII Edition, has become “an integration point for economists who follow the paradigm of the Austrian school worldwide. This event is considered a milestone within the Austrian school itself and has contributed to talk of a Madrid School,” says Alonso.

This 'Madrid School', broadly speaking, relates Spanish scholasticism represented by thinkers and theologians from the University of Salamanca such as Francisco De Vitoria or Juan de Mariana, among others, with the Austrian school of Economics.

Tribute to Professor Huerta de Soto

Within the framework of the Congress, an academic event will take place to pay tribute to Professor Jesús Huerta de Soto, professor at the URJC and a leading figure of the Austrian school of economics in Spain. Specifically, a book about the economist's work will be presented.

The event will feature the intervention of the rector of the URJC, Javier Ramos, and several guest speakers from both the Rey Juan Carlos University and universities and institutions from the United States, France, Switzerland and Germany.
