The new general secretary has indicated that this performance "represents a very important challenge and a responsibility that I assume with great pride because it means being general secretary of my university, to which I have belonged for more than 20 years."

Lourdes Meléndez thanked the rector for his trust and expressed her intention to “continue working for the benefit of the university community with great enthusiasm and eagerness to face this new stage.”

Regarding her previous work as vice-rector of Continuing Education, Meléndez has indicated that this “has been very gratifying because regulations have been approved to regulate own teachings, new degrees and, above all, the first URJC microcredentials have been approved that "It places us among the few universities in Spain that have already opted for this type of training." Furthermore, she added, “it has given me the opportunity to learn about the most innovative training proposals.”

Lourdes Meléndez has a Law Degree from the Autonomous University of Madrid and a Doctor of Law from the Complutense University of Madrid, with an extraordinary Doctorate award as well as a Full University Professor at the Rey Juan Carlos University. She is a corresponding Academician of the Royal Academy of Jurisprudence and Legislation. She has held the position of head of the Delegate Teaching Unit of the Faculty of Legal and Social Sciences in Alcorcón between 2006 and 2014. She has served as a substitute Magistrate in the Social Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice of Madrid between the years 2010 and 2014. She has been deputy general director of Social Security Collaborating Entities, in the Ministry of Employment and Social Security, between 2014 and 2018. In recent years she has held the position of vice-rector of Continuing Training at the URJC.

His area of ​​specialization, teaching and research is Labor Law. He has published numerous articles in scientific journals, as well as contributions to collective works and monographs. She has participated in various competitive research projects, at the regional and national level. She has been a speaker at numerous national and international conferences.
