The professor of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at the URJC was sworn in this morning as director of the Higher Technical School of Computer Engineering. The event took place today after being re-elected director of the School in December. Duarte has held this position since 2020.

Abraham Duarte received his bachelor's degree in Physical Sciences from the Complutense University of Madrid in 1998 and later, in 2004, he graduated with a doctorate in Computer Science from the URJC where he currently works as a full professor in the department of Computing. Duarte is part of the Research Group on Algorithms for Optimization (GRAFO). His interests range between Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Operations Research.

After the oath of office, accompanied by the rector of the University, Javier Ramos, and the general secretary, M.ª Lourdes Meléndez, the ETSII professor showed his emotion by expressing that: “this room is part of my academic life , here I defended my doctoral thesis, here the competition was held in which I obtained the position of professor and here the exercise was held where I obtained the position of professor." In this sense, Abraham Duarte wanted to remember his experience during confinement "I want to highlight the close collaboration with the government team, together we managed to ensure that the URJC did not stop machines."

In his speech, the University professor highlighted the School's commitment to the student body, "we have collaborated with student associations to carry out more than 40 activities, among which the video game development contest or the conferences stand out. of cybersecurity”. With a view to the future, the director of the ETSII has outlined the new challenges that he will pursue during his term, one of these is “the incorporation of the master's degrees into the school's own dynamics. Along these lines, we would also like to increase enrollment in the themselves.”

Once the speech was over, Javier Ramos took the floor to address the protagonist of the event, “the first thing I would like to do is congratulate you for this responsibility that you assume and that is definitely very big and important for us.”

The event was attended by the government team of the Higher Technical School of Computer Engineering, as well as deans and directors of other schools and faculties, as well as representatives of the URJC government team.
