The Rey Juan Carlos University will incorporate the multifaceted jurist and businessman Gregorio Marañón Bertrán de Lis to its faculty on March 7 in an academic event in which María Enciso, dean of the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences, will review his extensive and multifaceted career in various areas of public life.
Gregorio Marañón Bertrán de Lis, Marquis of Marañón, has accumulated a life in which he has dedicated his efforts to the study of law, the management of important companies and culture, among many other fields of activity. Thus, currently, we find him at the head of companies such as Universal Music Spain and Air City Madrid Sur and he is also president of the Advisory Council of Puy du Fou, member of the Administration Council of National Heritage, patron of the National Library and of the Army Museum, and is a member of the Cáritas Advisory Council.
He is also president of the Teatro Real and the Ortega Marañón Foundation. He has been linked, since its inception, to the PRISA communication group, and today is part of the Board of Directors of EL ESPAÑOL.
He is a full academician of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, honorary academician of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and Historical Sciences of Toledo and academician of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Telmo. He is a master in the Royal Cavalry Maestranza of Ronda.
The future Doctor Honoris Causa from the URJC was also related to politics in the years of the Transition, as he contributed to the formation of the Democratic Center Union (UCD), the party of the first democratic president after Franco, Adolfo Suárez.
Among the recognitions he accumulates include some as important as the Grand Cross of Isabel la Católica, Grand Cross of Alfonso City of Madrid and commander of the French Legion of Honor. In addition, he is an Honoris Causa doctor from the University of Castilla La Mancha. He has the Mariano de Cavia Prize for Journalism.
The solemn investiture ceremony, which will be held this Thursday in the rectorate's assembly hall, will include, among other guests, the Minister of Culture, Ernest Urtasun; the Minister of the Presidency, Justice and Relations with the Cortes, Félix Bolaños and Mariano de Paco, Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports of the Community of Madrid. In addition, several former ministers from the governments of Rajoy, Zapatero, Aznar and González have confirmed their attendance, as well as former presidents of the Congress of Deputies, businessmen, diplomats and members of the Royal Academies.
