Coinciding with the ninth edition of Healthy Universities Day - celebrated on October 5 -,the Spanish Network of Health Promoting Universities (REUPS) has once again launched the nationwide blood donation campaign. With the hashtag #Challenge10000, the goal was set to once again achieve 10.000 blood donations among all the universities that were able to join this initiative.

In 2022, the first year to carry out this challenge, 10.371 blood donations were obtained in 30 Spanish universities. However, more editions of the 5.000 Challenge had already been carried out previously, in which 5.000 donations were sought during the celebration of this day. In 2023, the number of effective donations made was 11.350 in 34 universities.

“Taking into account that a single blood donation can help up to three different people, the challenge achieved by these REUPS universities could save more than 34.000 lives,” the organization explains. Likewise, they also highlight that in this campaign more than 4.100 people have been encouraged to donate blood for the first time: "This figure highlights the important work of raising awareness of blood donation campaigns in universities," the organization states.
