The professor of Ecology at the Rey Juan Carlos University has been one of those awarded by the 'Alliance of World Scientists (AWS)'.

El 'AWS Planet Earth Award' recognizes those people who promote initiatives to defend and protect biodiversity on the planet. As the awards organization defends: “These individuals demonstrate exceptional creativity when carrying out work that seeks to solve environmental challenges.”

Fernando valladares He is a doctor in biology, a researcher at the Higher Council for Scientific Research and an associate professor at the URJC. His highly cited work focuses on the role of biodiversity and the impacts of climate change and human activity on ecosystems. In 2021 he receives the Jaume I Award in the Environmental Protection category and the Environmental Communication Award from the BBVA Foundation.

The AWS is an international assembly of scientists, the main objective of this association is to be a platform for scientific representation regarding climate and environmental trends. It currently has 27.000 members from 180 countries.
