This Thursday, the presentation day of the EBRAINS platform was held at the Faculty of Health Sciences of the URJC, in which both the dean of the FCS, Carlos Goicoechea, and the Vice-rector for Research, Innovation and Transfer of the URJC, Fernando García Muiña and which was organized by the European Projects Office of the Vice-Rectorate for Research and Innovation of the URJC.

As mentioned in the introduction to the conference, the EBRAINS platform, of which the URJC is an associate member, was born as the materialization of some of the innovation actions associated with the famous Human Brain Project. This began during the 7th Framework Program and has opened up many opportunities for research, innovation and digital services as it offers an open research infrastructure that brings together data, tools and computing and/or digital facilities to promote brain-related research. In this sense, the vice-rector Fernando García Muiña commented that “for the university it is very important to be part of international networks like this EBRAINS that allow researchers to take advantage of synergies, not only with researchers from the university itself, but also from other universities or research centers, because this increases our competitiveness in international calls”

The participation of the URJC in EBRAINS ensures access to a platform for discussion, exchange and interoperability of the neuroscientific community, with a common objective that is to accelerate research and innovation in the brain, making brain health a priority that can be materialize in new technological advances associated with the knowledge acquired by this scientific community.

The day also included the participation of the coordinator of the Spanish node of EBRAINS, Guillermo Velasco (UPM), as well as the scientific director of the node Bryan Strange (UPM) who presented the main objectives of this network and later with the participation of several researchers from some of the institutions that are part of EBRAINS, which showed the most outstanding fields of research and innovation in which they are currently working.

On behalf of the URJC, Oscar David Robles and Nicusor Cosmin Toader presented the most important scientific contributions within the context of EBRAINS by our institution, such as those related to innovation in the development of digital twins of the brain.

Finally, a networking session was held where it was possible to interact with the members of the node to explore participation options and synergies with other URJC researchers.
