Basic Information

Presentation

Master belonging to the titles issued by the URJC that puts the student in contact with Hispanic written sources through a critical, analytical and interdisciplinary methodology through the study of subjects specific to Historiographic Sciences and Techniques (Paleography, Diplomatics, Epigraphy, Graphitology History, Numismatics, Archivistics and Codicology) as well as Philology (Latin) and Chemistry (analysis of inks and writing media), as well as conservation and restoration techniques for documentary heritage. In this aspect, the student will be able to access diverse content and methodologies through a single course, combining humanistic and scientific disciplines.

Objectives

  • Train specialists in the study and investigation of written sources on any medium.
  • Address the study in all its complexity of documents written transversally, abandoning the current watertight compartments
  • Incorporate new technologies into the study, analysis and editing of written sources.

Module I: Historiographic Sciences and Techniques

  • Ancient and early medieval Hispanic writings
  • Late medieval and modern Hispanic writings
  • Hispanic Exposed Writings (Historical Graffiti)
  • Hispanic historical documentation
  • Currency as a historical source
  • Archival
  • Hispanic codicology

Module II: Archeology and materiality of writing

  • Epigraphy and epigraphic culture
  • Digital humanities: The digital document

Module III: Sciences applied to the study of historical documents

  • The language of the documents: Latin and ancient Spanish for the interpretation of written sources
  • Conservation and restoration techniques for books and documents
  • Chemistry applied to the study of writing media and inks

Module IV: Master's thesis

 

Recipients

Access requirements: Degrees or Double Degrees in History, Humanities, Philosophy and Letters or Library Science and Documentation, or those who have yet to pass a maximum of 30 ECTS credits from an official higher degree in Spain whose profile matches the scope of the proposed degree.

Exceptionally, those without a previous official university degree who can prove work experience in this field will also be able to access. In this case, they will be eligible for a university extension certificate or diploma with the same name and number of credits as this degree.
