Basic Information

Home

Proton therapy uses beams of high-energy accelerated protons, which are directed with pinpoint precision against the tumor, where they deposit most of their energy. This concentrated release of energy on the tumor minimizes the dose to surrounding tissues and reduces the risk of secondary tumor development, which is critical in young and pediatric patients. It is a booming technology. This course is organized in collaboration with the Proton Therapy Center of Quirón Salud, a pioneer center in this technology in Spain.

Objectives

The objective of the course is to teach the principles for the design, implementation and management of a new proton therapy facility, from the physical design and engineering, to the complete cycle of planning and treating a patient. Upon completion of the course, graduates will be able to learn the necessary procedures to address the different stages of establishment and start-up of a proton therapy center.
