A program is underway to improve the physical preparation of PDI and PAS

The Physical Preparation Unit of the Center for Sports Studies launches in a few days a SCHEDULE with which you want to contribute to improving the physical condition of the university staff. The plan will begin to be implemented in Fuenlabrada, although the goal is to reach all campuses.

This initiative, says Fernando Villar, coordinator of the degree in Science of Physical Activity and Sport and head of the Physical Preparation Unit, "is established in two phases: a first evaluation of the physical condition of the PAS and the PDI and a second in which a voluntary physical preparation program is proposed to be carried out during working hours”

The first phase begins on Monday, January 22 and will last for two weeks, although as Villar points out "it may last longer due to the large number of applications we have received: more than 300".

In this initial stage, resistance, strength and flexibility tests will be carried out “to know the general condition of the people who sign up”, explains Fernando Villar.

The second phase establishes a physical activity program for 3 days a week that both PAS and PDI staff can carry out within the working day.

First in Fuenlabrada

The pilot project will begin on the Fuenlabrada campus, although, as Villar indicates, “it is planned that next year it will be extended to Alcorcón, and later to Móstoles and Madrid. We hope that also to Aranjuez”.

"The goal is to be present on all campuses and for each of them to have a fitness room," says Villar.

The program is dedicated at first to PDI and PAS. “It is planned that it will be opened to university students in the future. What they do have at their disposal is the Fuenlabrada fitness room, where they can exercise autonomously and receive advice," says Villar.

In addition, Villar explains, "students of the Physical Activity and Sports Science degree will be able to carry out internships at the Unit in a few years." The degree began to be taught in 2016, so, Villar adds, "The experience of the students is still scarce."

The plan is part of a general Active and Healthy Life program carried out by the Center for Sports Studies of the Rey Juan Carlos University.
