Posted by Eva Dardalengas Palacios

The conference was focused on innovation led by women in data science, and was attended by directors of companies of recognized prestige such as Indra, Naturgy or Grupo Secuoya.

Last Thursday, April 16, the Seminar Technologies applied to innovative projects led by women in Data Science took place through teams live events, organized by the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos with MPLSAP and with the support of the program SAP Next Gen.

The conference, which was initially organized to take place in person, but finally had to be held virtually due to the state of alarm due to covid-19, is a Regional Event within the initiative Women in Data Science (WIDS)) of Stanford University, whose objective is to inspire and give visibility to women who stand out for their exceptional work in the field of Data Science.

In the first part, after an introduction to this initiative and the job opportunities in the field of data science, offered by Carmen de Pablos Heir, we had the pleasure of having Beatrix von Munthe, Head of Digital Transformation in Generation, Customers and Markets at Naturgy, who spoke to us about Digital Transformation in the Energy sector, and Olga Arribas-Gila, Technical Director of 7TV Region of Murcia of Grupo Secuoya, who explained to us how IP communications changed TV news.

after the break, Elena de Mesa Martin, Responsible for Transport and Defense Production Planning at Indra Systems and associate professor at the Rey Juan Carlos University, told us about the innovative technological projects that her company is carrying out.

Finally, we had a very interesting colloquium on gender equality in the ICT sector and the role of the University in training and guiding women towards careers focused on Data Science, moderated by the director of the Master in SAP Logistics Project Management from the King Juan Carlos University, Monica de Pablos Heir.

More than 3000 people connected live and the reception to the event was impressive, as reflected in the multitude of comments and questions that we received throughout the afternoon through the chat included in the application, as well as the numerous emails that we are receiving of congratulations from all the attendees, who highlighted the enormous effort of the speakers to adapt to the circumstances and their quality and professionalism, and for dealing with a topic that they found extremely interesting and very necessary.

The small aid granted by the Rey Juan Carlos University to celebrate it will go to some of the humanitarian causes that are helping to alleviate the effects of covid 19.
