The Robert Capa Was Here Festival continues with its activities and the professors of the Degree in Fine Arts, Tomás Zara and Miguel S. Moñita, have presented the book Exiles in the Black Week of Gijón that is part of the aforementioned festival.

Professors Tomás Zarza Núñez and Miguel S.Moñita from the Bachelor of Fine Arts together with Uría Fernández from the Anastasio de Gracia Foundation have been invited to present the book Exiles in the XXXIII edition of the Black Week of Gijón, one of the most important literary meetings of the year. The director of the Festival, Ángel de la Calle, affirms that this event “is not only a literary meeting place, but also a space for the exchange of ideas”. Under this premise, the professors of the Degree in Fine Arts have presented this book that includes a battery of cultural activities around the exiles of the past and present. The publication is part of the activities of the Robert Capa Was Here Festival in which more than 150 students and 12 teachers of the Degree in Fine Arts have participated directly. Through a journey through three main axes: the labor heritage, the culture of peace and the recovery of historical memory, the publication collects the artistic practices, reflections, conferences and colloquiums that took place between November 2019 and January 2020 in different points of the city of Madrid.

The festival arose in 2018 to protect the house at 10 Peironcely Street in which the famous photojournalist Robert Capa took an iconic image in November 1936. The idea, born from the Anastasio de Gracia Foundation, was supported from the beginning by the professors of the Degree in Fine Arts who have directly participated in the design and execution of the cultural festival.

The organized festival was a success in terms of participation and dissemination, and made clear the commitment of teachers to transmit knowledge to society. 5 exhibitions, 3 conferences and colloquiums, 2 audiovisual projections and various cultural events were held. The publication is an opportunity to tell a way of understanding the university that tries to get out of its comfort zone and take students out into the street to live a learning experience in contact with reality.

According to Uría Fernández of the Anastasio de Gracia Foundation "we believe that the work carried out by the Bachelor of Fine Arts favors the access of its students to a totally practical training in artistic creation and education in social and democratic values that are fundamental to ensure the future development of a mature and plural society".
