Successfully ends the July call for TFG

Written by Beatriz Rodríguez Herráez

Due to the situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Faculty of Legal and Social Sciences has organized the call for Final Degree Projects in July with an exceptional procedure. A total of 2.660 students have delivered their TFG in this call that has been a success despite the difficulties.

The end of this sad and exceptional 2019-20 academic year is already around the corner, although as a result of the health crisis caused by Covid-19 and the confinement it caused, there have been delays in some procedures and calls for the Rey Juan Carlos University has decided to extend the course until October 30.

One of the calls that was affected was that of the TFG, which in other years has been held in June and has been delayed until July. Although the challenge in the March call to carry out the defenses of the TFG remotely had already been overcome, the experience made the FCJS TFG unit intuit that the number of works to be presented was going to be very high, and taking into account Given that the defense had to be carried out remotely, they had to get to work and develop an exceptional procedure that would allow the management of a high number of works without prejudice to the students. The possibility offered in the March call to present the works to students who had pending External Practices was maintained. But another variety was also added, which consisted of granting the tutor the ability to make a grade proposal and if it was equal to or less than 8, that grade was saved on the platform without having to defend it before the Evaluation Commission. Presentation before a court was proposed for those works in which the tutor's grade proposal had been higher than 8. In this way, the courts could be maintained while guaranteeing that the students could finish their studies and obtain their degrees. in a satisfactory way.

The TFG unit was right and the papers submitted to this call amounted to 2.660, it would have been unfeasible and unsustainable to hold tribunals for all of them. Even so, the number of proposed TFGs to defend before the Evaluation Commission has been 912, for which 95 courts have been convened that, through the Teams application, judged all the students' defenses for a week. Everything has been possible thanks to the coordination of the TFG unit, the work of the degree coordinators, the availability and collaboration of the teachers and the patience of the students.

From here we can only thank all the staff of the TFG unit of the Faculty for all the work carried out, the degree coordinators for their good work, the professors for the diligence shown in the face of new challenges... But above all We want to congratulate the new graduates, it has been a very difficult and hard year and; however, you will always remember this 2020 as the year you graduated and started another new stage in your life. Enjoy and celebrate this achievement, but with knowledge, with a mask, with social distance and with hygiene. Congratulations!
