Relevant information for new FCJS students

Written by Beatriz Rodríguez Herráez

We are just a few days away from the start of the new course and given the uncertainty that new students have, we want to leave you with information here that we hope will be of interest to you.

The 2020-21 academic year will start this year a few days later than what has been usual lately, specifically, teaching will begin on September 28, and you can already consult the academic calendar and  schedules of each degree. Before this date, for new students, the welcome day will be held, which this year will be done remotely to guarantee current security and health prevention measures. On September 17, a video will be sent to first-year students to welcome them.

Uncertainty is with us again this year, just as it has been happening since last March. Given this situation, the Faculty of Legal and Social Sciences already approved on July 21 at the Faculty Board what the teaching adaptation plan for this course or, if it is not possible to apply the planned contingency plan.

In order to carry out an adequate incorporation, the campuses are being marked with posters and infographics, while the buildings are being equipped with the necessary resources to protect the health of the entire university community. These tasks will be extended to classrooms, laboratories, libraries or offices, and work is even being done to make catering services available as soon as possible. But we know that we have to seek protection among all of us and that is why we ask for co-responsibility, in order to gradually recover the long-awaited university life, that is why we recommend taking into account the preventive health measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

In order to make the most of the available computer resources that will serve to develop academic, management and communication activities, it is necessary to have knowledge of the available resources and their operation. For this reason, a series of training courses have been prepared to initiate or improve the use of the available tools. The most basic shows the fundamental tools available at the University, https://welcomeurjc.atavist.com/servicios-de-informatica-y-de-comunicaciones-para-estudiantes. Another one on the use of the Virtual Classroom has been prepared, which is very useful for students and is available to be able to catch up before the start of classes. https://online.urjc.es/es/estudiantes/formacion

There is a care service for people with disabilities and special needs available so that any member of the university community can have the same opportunities as the rest in the development of their activities. In order to benefit from the aid it is necessary to be registered in the unit. It is very simple and it is enough to formalize the registration and request a personalized interview to be able to make an assessment that adjusts to the needs of each person.

Another important issue for students is knowing the existence of a student representation that intends to collaborate and help any student to resolve any doubts that may arise. The first person to turn to in case of need is the group delegates that represent the class and that are the link in the communication between the students and the teaching staff. For this it is important that each group has a delegate, the deadlines and how to proceed to the election of delegates will be informed. If necessary, it could be addressed to the degree delegates, who are the representatives of each of the degrees and who are in direct contact with the degree coordinators. Lastly, the Faculty delegate represents all the students of the Faculty in the governing bodies of which he is a member.

The student associations They play a fundamental role in the day-to-day development of our Faculty. They try to invigorate university life and to do so they promote student participation, in addition to organizing and collaborating in training, cultural, sports or leisure activities.
