Furnish me, the furniture exhibition in Quintana

Posted by Ruben Navas

The students of Comprehensive Design and Image Management have held an exhibition of their work at the Quintana headquarters.

At the exit of the Quintana headquarters building, an exhibition has been organized with the latest works of the Furniture Design subject carried out by the third-year students of the Integral Design and Image Management degree.

The method of making the furniture first goes through a 3D digital design phase, being the first prototype made by the students with this technique, to later manufacture it on a real scale using a numerical control milling machine from the university.

According to Professor Víctor Armas, responsible for this initiative, this form of manufacturing "allows to make all kinds of curved morphologies in an easy and fast way, almost impossible to do with traditional carpentry technologies".

"At URJC we are proud to be almost the only public university that implements these digital fabrication methodologies in its teaching in such an active way. Currently, these methodologies based on digitization are becoming even more important since the European Union is determined to emerge from the crisis caused by the current pandemic, renewing itself through a social reconversion that is committed to the qualification and digitization of human capital. In degrees like this offered by the URJC we are at the forefront and will have repercussions on the employability of our students."

The theme is chosen by the students, who are inspired by artistic movements from the end of the XNUMXth century, delving with aesthetic freedom into different avant-garde artistic concepts such as: Organic Design, Art Nouveau, Parametric Design, etc.

The exhibition can be visited until mid-July at the exit door of the Quintana building, which must be accessed through the main door for security reasons. Due to its success, the possibility of extending it until September is being studied.
