Deserved tribute to José Ramón Monrobel Alcántara

Posted by Redaction FCJS

After fifteen months, the tribute that José Ramón Monrobel deserved could finally be celebrated. The pandemic and other setbacks lengthened the possibility of holding this event that was lovingly organized by the Faculty of Legal and Social Sciences.

On Thursday, July 1, at seven in the afternoon, a large group of friends met with a single objective, to make that afternoon a tribute to a great professor, colleague and manager of the Faculty, and that his family could remember him, like every day, but this time a little more wrapped up.

Since the tragic day of May 3, 2020, when the death of José Ramón was reported, the FCJS had the desire, and almost the obligation, to pay tribute to someone who had dedicated a large part of his life to this house. When the idea began to take shape, all those who found out showed their interest in being able to participate, in being part of this dedication. Unfortunately, not everyone could be there physically, for different reasons, but they were there with their hearts, and it was noticeable in the atmosphere.

The act was something very simple but also very emotional. We were very lucky to have a mistress of ceremonies who was a great friend of José Ramón and who therefore put all her love into the presentation of the act, it was the teacher Ana Medina, with whom José Ramón shared his passion for numbers.

Representatives from all sectors of the university intervened throughout the tribute. A student began, Daniel Muñoz, who recalled the facet of José Ramón as a teacher and how he made a subject so little appreciated by students, such as mathematics, one of the favorites for many of his classmates. Later on, Juan José Lázaro, currently section chief, who began his professional career at Ramón Carande together with José Ramón, came to the lectern, whom despite not knowing him initially and not having a good start, he ended up appreciating and emerging between them an excellent relationship.

His colleagues from the department could not miss this appointment and for this reason we had the opportunity to listen to Santiago Leguey and Ángeles Cámara. The first was able to get many smiles from the public with some of the anecdotes they shared together. Ángeles spoke as a colleague, as thesis director and above all as a friend of Monrobel and that is how she felt in her words.

But not only the FCJS was present, as it could not be otherwise, some of his friends from the School of Informatics were also present. Enrique Cabello recalled his long career with José Ramón that began in Salamanca and ended up coinciding, after a parenthesis, at the Rey Juan Carlos University. The director of the School, Abraham Duarte, took the floor to remember the hours they spent talking about any topic that was of interest to the university.

In the last part we were able to listen to the interventions of university administrators to learn about this last facet of José Ramón, which was the one he liked least but to which he dedicated many hours and which gave him great satisfaction but also many disappointments. Vice Chancellor Jesús Messía remembered his partner, but also his friend, with whom he shared paddle tennis matches and some beer, although it was more time for beers than for the match. His successor in the position of maximum representation in the Faculty, the current dean María Luisa Delgado, did not want to miss the opportunity to publicly thank José Ramón and remember that the event that afternoon was for him, but especially for his family, through his wife and children, Rosa, Paula and Gonzalo. Finally, the rector of the University, Javier Ramos, recalled the times in which he coincided with José Ramón in his first government team when he appointed him vice-rector for students. In addition, he was in charge of giving way to the second part of the act, for which he invited the attendees to go out to the main avenue of the campus gardens to discover a plaque that will give name to that avenue, and that, as the dean recalled, he visited so many times Monrobel.

Without a doubt, this final part was the most emotional because it was Paula, his eldest daughter and future computer scientist, who wanted to share some loving words about her father, who surely listened to her with great pride wherever he was.

We will keep reminding you when we go from the apartment to the management building or to the cafeteria of the residence. #Thanks Monrobel.
