Presentation of the project "The Valencian cane sugar route, from Europe to America¨

Last Wednesday, March 30, the Transnational Innovation Research Project for development, cooperation and peace in the world was presented in the auditorium of the Rey Juan Carlos University at the Quintana headquarters: "The sugar route of Valencian cane, from Europe to America¨, a project recognized and financed by the European Union and UNESCO, which will be presented next month at the UN in New York.

This project has the support of three Spanish universities, the University of Valencia, the University of Alicante and the Rey Juan Carlos University through the Alicia Alonso University Institute of Dance, three Cuban universities, two Colombian universities, a Dominican university, and two universities. Peruvian, and several prestigious German, Swiss and Italian universities and institutions, and three museums in Germany, Switzerland and Spain.

In the act, supported by the Minister of Science and Innovation of the Government of Spain Diana Morant, brought together numerous authorities of the Generalitat Valenciana, Mayors and political and cultural leaders of the geographically involved regions. In 1420 the German trading company of Ravensburg was established in Valencia and in 1460 the factory and sugar refiner of the German company of Ravensburg was established in Real de Gandía.

The sugar recovery route is a project supported by important international, national and local cultural institutions that emphasizes an area of ​​innovation, originating in the Valencian Community, in Spain and that from Europe has influenced the global world. The recovery of this knowledge, and facts enters fully into the activities related to UNESCO, with the recovery of the Intangible Cultural Heritage or ¨Living Heritage¨ Living heritage is important because it instills a sense of identity and continuity in communities to build invulnerable, inclusive societies and peaceful. The project has also been supported by important artistic institutions and great international artists, such as the prestigious pianist Jorge Luis Pratts, the renowned classical and jazz pianist Pepe Rivero, the Spanish Trumpet (recognized as the best in the world) Manuel Blanco, the prestigious violinist, Serbo-Swiss international soloist Mirka Scepanovic, who actively participate in the project.

Two conferences were given at the event, the first opening of the event was given by the professor of our university Amador Cernuda Lago, who presented: The influences of Cultural Heritage on the cognitive and educational development of children and adolescents and their beneficial effect in social dynamics. And the Valencian professor and researcher Vicent Mahiques Fornés, presented the history of sugar and a synthesis of his book The Sugar Factory of the German company of Ravesburg in Real de Gandía in 1460. Two documentaries on the subject were also released.
