Liber and the Legal Clinic of the Rey Juan Carlos University train 20 students in disability law, legal capacity and easy reading to provide legal advice services, through the “De tú a tú” project. The students who participate in the project provide legal advice services to 10 people with intellectual disabilities who have a judgment of modification of capacity.

Liber (formerly the Spanish Association of Guardianship Foundations -AEFT) ylThe Rey Juan Carlos University completed the first edition of the learning and service project “De tú a tú”, in which students from the URJC Legal Clinic and people with intellectual disabilities supported by FUTUMAD participated; and that it is carried out within the collaboration agreement signed between both institutions in November of last year.

Eth The project, coordinated by Liber at the state level and financed by the Ministry of Education, has also been taken to other Spanish universities, such as the University of Castilla-la Mancha, the University of Valladolid, the University of Córdoba and the University of A Coruña.

In the case of the Rey Juan Carlos University, this first edition of the project has allowed 20 law students to acquire theoretical knowledge about the legislative reform promoted by Law 8/2021, of June 2, for the support of people with disabilities in the exercise of their legal capacity, on intellectual disability and on cognitive accessibility; and put them into practice, working directly with 10 people with intellectual disabilities who have sentences of modification of the capacity prior to the reform, and who are supported by the Fundación Tutelar de Madrid FUTUMAD. At the close of the first edition of the project, a face-to-face workshop was held in which the students put their knowledge into practice by providing a service to the group of people supported by FUTUMAD who had requested it and had the opportunity to access their sentences, previously adapted in Easy Reading, and to obtain a detailed explanation, adjusted to your needs and personal characteristics, about your legal situation. Finally, from both institutions, they highlight that the Learning and Service project joins other collaborations between Liber and the Rey Juan Carlos University Legal Clinic, which have allowed joint work in various events, such as the II Conference on disabilities in rural areas and the First State Congress on the right to decide with support, held last November, and the future edition of the Rey Juan Carlos University summer courses, to be held next June .
