Today, March 8, within the framework of the commemoration of International Women's Day, the URJC Equality Unit in collaboration with the 'Amar Dragoste' Association, organizes the workshop 'Trafficking in women for sexual exploitation. “Human trafficking has become a scourge in our times, going so far as to say that it is the new form of slavery of the 21st century,” the Equality Unit states, highlighting that International Labor Organization (ILO) It is estimated that 30 million people are victims of trafficking worldwide. “It is the business with the greatest growth in the world, generating, according to United Nations reports, more than 32.000 million dollars a year,” the organization of the event explains.

Among the objectives of the workshop is understanding the reality of trafficking for sexual exploitation, learning to identify this type of situations; at the same time as training attendees to be agents of social transformation. “To achieve this, the URJC has had the collaboration of 'Amar Dragoste', a non-profit association created in 2010, whose mission is to combat social inequality and counteract situations of vulnerability of people who are victims of trafficking or at risk. of social exclusion” comments from the university's Equality Unit.

Gender equality in companies

And in the same framework of commemorating International Women's Day, the aforementioned Equality Unit of the URJC, this time in collaboration with the Madrid Section of the Spanish Association of Labor and Social Security (AEDTSS), present the conference “The implementation of the principle of gender equality in companies.” This event will take place next March 13, in hybrid mode (online and in-person).

The event will be attended by professionals from the sector such as Lidia Catalayud, lawyer in the Labor area of ​​Ceca Magán; Pilar Charro, Professor of Labor and Social Security Law and director of the Equality Unit of the URJC; o Andrés Ramón Trillo, director of the Legal Department of the National Social Security Institute.

Equality between women and men is today a universal legal principle derived from the recognition of human dignity as a fundamental right in all international and supranational treaties and in the constitutional texts of most countries.

“More and more companies are considering the importance of incorporating measures and strategies that promote equal opportunities between women and men beyond the legal requirements,” the organization of the day explains, stating that its promotion and respect bring advantages. competitive, brand improvements, along with the attraction and retention of talent.
