Basic Information

What knowledge will I acquire with this Master?

The Master consists of 60 ECTS credits, which will be taken over an academic year, from October to June.

Academic training consists of two sections: 1) Research section with a focus on molecular oncology, of 36 credits taught in the 1st and 2nd semester.

2) Section for the development of the Master's Thesis, of 24 credits taught in the 2nd semester.

The research orientation of the Master will be based on research projects, systematic reviews and original studies carried out through the Master's Thesis. In addition, the investigative nature of the Master is justified through each and every one of the subjects that make up the academic program, all of them compulsory and aimed at acquiring research skills in the field of Molecular Oncology and Molecular Pathology of Oncological disease. : Molecular bases of cancer (3 credits), Proto-oncogenes and oncogenes (3 credits), Tumor suppressor genes (3 credits), Cellular processes involved in carcinogenesis (3 credits), Molecular pathology techniques (3 credits), Molecular pathology in the clinic of solid tumors (6 credits), Molecular pathology in the clinic of hematological tumors (3 credits), Clinical Research Methodology in oncology (3 credits), Risk factors in neoplasms (3 credits), Pharmacology and antitumor agents (3 credits), New molecular therapies (3 credits), Master's Thesis (24 credits).

Is it necessary to pass an access test?

Candidates must be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of English to follow the Master's classes that are taught in this language. The Master is taught mostly in Spanish with some classes in English in some subjects. Therefore, they will have to prove sufficient knowledge of English. If it cannot be accredited, the Directorate of the Master reserves the right to carry out a test on the student that allows evaluating their level of English.

The Direction of the Master will be the body that will be in charge of the Admission process and will evaluate the required documents and will accept or not the candidate applying a scale of academic merits that will be nuanced with the explanatory letter.

Recommended income profile

The Master's Degree in Molecular Oncology, as it is a highly specialized training program, is aimed at students with a recommended entry profile.

The recommended entry profile is that of a graduate or doctor of Medicine doing or having done a specialty in one of these areas: Oncology, Anatomical Pathology, Hematology or Radiotherapy, or any other with a special link to Oncology. However, graduates, graduates or doctors of disciplines in the area of Health Sciences with a special interest or professional link in the field of Oncology may also take the Master.

Lay the foundations for a clinical practice of excellence based on the results of the latest research and through scientific mastery of the molecular bases of cancer.

CE02 - Explain the cellular processes involved in the repair of genetic damage and the mutator pathway in carcinogenesis.

CE04 - Interpret the evolutionary results of pathological and histological studies indicated for cancer patients
CE05 - Prepare an unpublished Research Report in the field of Oncology based on the use of methods and techniques typical of scientific research in molecular oncology, with an emphasis on translational oncology research.
CE06 - Develop the ability to work in a group of peers of professionals linked to oncology based on the programmatic development of the knowledge of neoplastic pathology acquired in the Master.
CE07 - Collaborate in the development and implementation of tools for diagnosis and treatment of cancer patients using the knowledge acquired on cell biology, gene regulation mechanisms and changes caused by neoplastic transformation.
CE08 - Master the methodological strategies of clinical trials and the application of molecular targets as a complement to the diagnosis and prognosis of suspected cancer patients.
CE09 - Actively use the vocabulary of Molecular Oncology during professional performance, as well as the concepts of diagnosis and prognosis based on molecular bases.
CE10 - Use the knowledge about the molecular bases of cancer and research skills in oncology acquired in the Master's Degree in favor of the development of science.

Admission and enrollment

The requirements for access to the proposed title are according to article 18, of Royal Decree 822/2021, of September 28:

Possession of an official Spanish Graduate or Graduate university degree or equivalent is a condition for accessing a Master's Degree, or, where appropriate, having another University Master's degree, or titles of the same level as the Spanish Bachelor's or Master's degree issued by universities and higher education institutions in an EHEA country that in that country allow access to Master's degrees.
In the same way, people in possession of titles from educational systems that are not part of the EHEA, which are equivalent to a Bachelor's degree, will be able to access a Master's Degree in the Spanish university system, without the need for homologation of the title, but verification by of the university of the level of training that they imply, as long as in the country where said title was issued it allows access to university postgraduate level studies. In no case will access through this route imply the homologation of the previous degree held by the person concerned or its recognition for other purposes than that of carrying out the Master's degree.

The Rey Juan Carlos University does not have specific admission regulations, but is governed by article 16 of Royal Decree 1393/2007, modified by Royal Decree 861/2010, of July 2. Each title has its own general access criteria and special access tests.

Admission to the Master's Degrees will be carried out through a selection process; in some cases, that process may involve a selection test. The Direction of the Master will communicate to the interested parties what the selection test will consist of, if any, as well as the exact date and the way it will be carried out through this application and by means of a notice by mail. electronic.

Enrollment of new students in the Master's Degrees of the Rey Juan Carlos University is done, through the Internet, in the enrollment period whose dates are established and published on the University's website.

In the case of vacant places in the University Master's degrees offered in the pre-registration of the ordinary term, a second extraordinary registration period is opened, after the corresponding pre-registration period, on the dates established in the month of September.

Degree in Medicine. In general terms, candidates for the Master's degree must be graduates, graduates or doctors in Medicine who are in residency or are already specialists, preferably in:

Other Medicine residents or specialists who demonstrate a link with the oncological disease may also access the Master's Degree.

Graduates, graduates or doctors from other disciplines in the field of Health Sciences who carry out their professional activity in the field of Oncology may also take the Master:

Mobility programs

Renewal of accreditation
