Students will obtain training knowledge that will provide them with meritorious capacity to develop them in research and professional work in the different disciplines of music, from musicological, creative and performative research to other multiple activities such as music criticism and dissemination, teaching or work in media, among others.

Objectives

The University Master's Degree in Musical Creation and Interpretation is aimed at promoting research in musical creation and interpretation and is aimed, fundamentally, at qualified professionals, professors from the different Superior Conservatories of Music and university graduates and postgraduate researchers who aspire to a high-level specialization. level in studies on musical creation and interpretation.

Objectives:

  • Promote research into musical creation and interpretation from a multidisciplinary and performative perspective.
  • Stimulate the development of musical creation, in particular, and artistic creation, in general, as well as other related areas such as program management, promotion, dissemination, criticism, etc.
  • Contribute to research in various fields of science and knowledge that provide new elements in not only musical but physical preparation of performers such as psycho-acoustics, anatomy, biomechanics, etc.
  • Promote the training of programmers, critics and cultural promoters.
  • Deepen the knowledge of the human, material and immaterial resources that influence the creation of the different manifestations of Music.
  • Contribute from scientific research to the development of creative processes, investigating the capacities of high artistic, creative and psychomotor performance.

The purpose of the title is for students to investigate musical creation and interpretation and to be able to attend a doctorate in music to present a future doctoral thesis in the field of musical research.

Competences

General Competences of the Master:

  • CG01 - Contribute to research in various fields of science and knowledge that provide new elements in the preparation, not only musical but also physical, of performers such as psychoacoustics, anatomy, biomechanics, etc.
  • CG02 - Promote the research of programmers, critics and cultural promoters.
  • CG03 - Contribute from scientific research to the development of creative processes, investigating the capacities of high artistic, creative and psychomotor performance.
  • CG04 - Understand the general lines of the evolution of music
  • CG05 - Display a critical dimension capable of contributing to the process of social construction of the meaning of the musical work, as well as a commitment to ethics and fidelity at work

Specific Competences:

  • CE01 - Promote research into musical creation and performance from a multidisciplinary and creative educational perspective, attending, in methodology, to equality between men and women in accordance with the values ​​of a culture of peace and democratic values.
  • CE02 - Stimulate the development of musical creation in particular and artistic creation in general, as well as other related areas such as program management, promotion, disclosure, criticism, etc. In this sense, obviously, although it is not the primary objective of the master's degree, there is no doubt that a greater and deeper knowledge of the musical fact will contribute to a better preparation when it comes to professionally approaching the latter.
  • CE03 - Delve into the knowledge of the human, material and immaterial resources that influence the creation of the different manifestations of Music.
  • CE04 - Seek the improvement of musicians according to different areas of research that contribute to multidisciplinarity.

Admission and enrollment

Admission:

The requirements for access to the proposed title are according to article 18, of Royal Decree 822/2021, of September 28:

  1. Possession of an official Spanish Graduate or Graduate university degree or equivalent is a condition for accessing a Master's Degree, or, where appropriate, having another University Master's degree, or titles of the same level as the Spanish Bachelor's or Master's degree issued by universities and higher education institutions in an EHEA country that in that country allow access to Master's degrees.
  2. In the same way, people in possession of titles from educational systems that are not part of the EHEA, which are equivalent to a Bachelor's degree, will be able to access a Master's Degree in the Spanish university system, without the need for homologation of the title, but verification by of the university of the level of training that they imply, as long as in the country where said title was issued it allows access to university postgraduate level studies. In no case will access through this route imply the homologation of the previous degree held by the person concerned or its recognition for other purposes than that of carrying out the Master's degree.

Specific requirements of the Degree:

GENERAL ACCESS CRITERIA:

The specific qualifications that will facilitate access to the Master are the following:

  • Superior Degree of Conservatory
  • Degree in Musicology
  • Other official degrees or titles that include Musical Composition and Interpretation subjects in their curriculum, or degrees or bachelor's degrees that have established training and/or internships, among their specialties, related to the musical field in any of its contents: psychology , sociology, informatics, pedagogy, art, theater, dance, etc.

Candidate selection:

Preference will be given to students from higher music conservatories who will be able to access the master's degree based on the study plan of Decree 2618/66 on Higher Degree Studies in Music.

The selection of applicants, in the event that the demand exceeds the offer, will be carried out by submitting a standardized curriculum with the specific profile required and a personal interview by the director of the Master and one of the professors of the same. . For the selection, criteria of professional experience (30%), academic record (60%) and motivation (10%) will be taken into account.

Offer of places: 45 places. If the minimum number of students envisaged is not reached in a course, the University may choose not to open the teaching group.

The Quality Assurance System of the Rey Juan Carlos University establishes that the degree's Quality Assurance Commission will annually analyze the information derived from the degree's indicators and prepare a report that will include improvement plans if the results so indicate.

Renewal of accreditation

The renewal of the accreditation represents the culmination of the implementation process of the official Bachelor's and Master's degrees registered in the Register of Universities, Centers and Degrees (RUCT). The renewal of the accreditation of official bachelor's and master's degrees is organized in three phases: self-assessment report, external visit and final assessment.

In the first phase, the university describes and assesses the status of the degree with respect to the established criteria and guidelines.
