What knowledge will I acquire with this Master?

The Master's Degree in Management and Leadership in Cultural Projects works from the model of transforming organization and knowledge, attentive to the current circumstances of our transcultural society linked to Cultural Anthropology, Theory of Culture, Sociology and Historiography. This will lead students to build and develop their own critical vision of the current and contemporary cultural world, both regarding their projects and the cultural and artistic policies of the different social environments in which they operate.

Recommended income profile

Students who have possession of an official Spanish university degree or another issued by a higher education institution of the European Higher Education Area that authorizes access to Master's degrees in the country that issued the degree.

Objectives

This Master's aims to expand the academic training of students through a higher degree of specialization and the introduction to scientific research.

The specific objectives of the program consist of the study of the dynamics of creation, transformation, change and management of the different specific activities of culture that involve museums, galleries, exhibitions, theater, music, dance, heritage, cinema, television, publishing... , and in a particular way the institutions, foundations and public and private organizations from the application of the tools and techniques of the creation and leadership of projects. The study program of this degree is proposed:

  • Introduce the study of a new dialectical and transformative way of designing, organizing and managing cultural projects as well as the ability to critically evaluate these projects.
  • Facilitate the handling of research tools and methods that allow evaluating the viability of an idea based on the consideration of the internal characteristics of organizations and their external context to proceed to the identification of a cultural project.
  • Enable the student with tools and habits of research and analysis of the cultural reality that allow him to extract from it relevant information for decision-making and the generation of knowledge in the field of direction and management of cultural projects.
  • Train generalists and specialists in culture and the arts in the management of organizational skills and techniques that allow them to generate a project or an organizational structure around an artistic or cultural event or activity.
  • Introduce the study and evaluation of the methods of leadership, management, skills and attitudes that influence the achievement of effectiveness for the creation and production of projects in companies or private and public cultural organizations.
  • Report on the policies and dynamics of international cooperation related to culture and development issues, from the point of view of culture and cooperation projects: bilateral, multilateral and sectoral cooperation.
  • Stimulate discussion of ethical dilemmas and moral responsibilities related to cultural management; the production, marketing and consumption of cultural products and services; and the conservation of the tangible and intangible values ​​of culture.

Specific Competences:

  • CE.1- Ability to design various types of projects related to the production and management of cultural goods and services using the practical knowledge and skills learned in the degree.
  • CE.2- Manage the main tools for the management of cultural projects according to their sectoral specificity or levels of territorial complexity, being able to adapt this knowledge to changing realities, performing effectively in a variety of roles within the organizational chart of their organization, including leadership roles.
  • CE.3- Define the structure of the cultural organization from the complexity approach according to its purpose, being able to understand the functioning and internal processes of these organizations, as well as the external context in which they operate and the way they are managed.
  • CE-4. Use research tools and techniques in Social Sciences in the study of the structures, phenomena and behaviors of the different formats and agents related to the production, management and promotion of culture.
  • CE.5- Apply the methodological tool of situation analysis/diagnosis as the basis for the process of creating cultural projects, and use research and knowledge effectively: the examination and organization of data, synthesis and analysis with a view to abstract meanings from information and be able to share this knowledge.
  • CE.6- Master the tools of communication: dialogue and debate as ways of inspiration and innovation of cultural projects and will exhibit effective performance within teamwork, including the ability to recognize and use individual contributions to group processes, as well as such as negotiating, persuading or influencing other people, demonstrating skills in personnel selection, and delegation of tasks.
  • CE.7- Define the value chain of the project aimed at satisfying the needs and expectations of the author-consumer of culture, taking advantage of this analysis tool for the strategic planning of the cultural project.
  • CE.8- Analyze the current and potential situation of the main cultural industries, paying special attention to the Spanish reality and the most relevant international markets, being able to prepare prospective analyzes on the sector.
  • CE.9- Approach the cultural project from an economic and financial programming and control approach, and will be able to identify the sequencing of project activities with consideration of time and costs.
  • CE.10- Master the latest trends in the supply of artistic-cultural products and projects, their management and dissemination today.
  • CE.11- Know the influence of market studies for the development of cultural products and services, and be able to apply their results to critical decision-making in the planning and development of a cultural product or service.
  • CE.12- Master the characteristics of culture and cooperation projects, as well as Spanish cooperation policies in the cultural sector.
  • CE.13- Manage an updated knowledge of cultural policies and the Ibero-American cultural market.
  • CE.14- Acquire up-to-date knowledge about the relationship between cultural products and Information and Communication Technologies, their relevance for the creation and management of a cultural project, as well as for the valorisation, positioning and distribution of a product or culture service.
  • CE.15 Ability to defend and argue the design or analysis of a cultural project within the framework of the public defense of a Master's Thesis.

Admission and enrollment

Admission:

The requirements for access to the proposed title are according to article 18, of Royal Decree 822/2021, of September 28:

  1. Possession of an official Spanish Graduate or Graduate university degree or equivalent is a condition for accessing a Master's Degree, or, where appropriate, having another University Master's degree, or titles of the same level as the Spanish Bachelor's or Master's degree issued by universities and higher education institutions in an EHEA country that in that country allow access to Master's degrees.
  2. In the same way, people in possession of titles from educational systems that are not part of the EHEA, which are equivalent to a Bachelor's degree, will be able to access a Master's Degree in the Spanish university system, without the need for homologation of the title, but verification by of the university of the level of training that they imply, as long as in the country where said title was issued it allows access to university postgraduate level studies. In no case will access through this route imply the homologation of the previous degree held by the person concerned or its recognition for other purposes than that of carrying out the Master's degree.

Candidate selection:

The preferred profiles for admission to the Master's Degree in Management and Leadership in Cultural Projects include: University graduates and postgraduates in Dance and Performing Arts, in Cultural Management, art and humanities, higher graduates in artistic education who meet the requirements for access to a university master's degree, university holders in social and communication sciences, and other university graduates linked academically or professionally to cultural industries or activities of production, management and promotion of culture.

The selection of applicants is carried out by the Head of the Master, who may rely on a Commission appointed for this purpose, which would include at least two professors responsible for the subjects. The procedure will consist of examining the applicant's academic record and standardized curriculum, as well as conducting an interview.

During the selection, criteria of coincidence with the profile of the degree, experience or professional connection, and motivation will be met.

In the event that the demand exceeds the offer, the following order of adaptation to the profile of the Master will be established:

University Graduates in Dance, (degrees in Visual Arts and Dance; and Pedagogy of Visual Arts and Dance)

  • Higher Degree in Dance
  • University Degrees in Cultural Management, Art and Humanities
  • Graduates of Artistic Education (who meet the requirements for access to a university master's degree)
  • University graduates in tourism, social sciences and communication
  • University graduates linked academically or professionally to cultural industries or activities of production, management and promotion of culture.

Weighting criteria:

Priority according to the profile of the applicants: 50%

(The adaptation to the profiles mentioned above will grant a better or worse evaluation in this criterion.)

Academic record: 20%

(Academic career reflected in the documentation provided by the applicant, other degrees obtained, complementary training (other higher or postgraduate degrees) with interest and orientation towards the activities of production, management and promotion of culture.)

Curriculum and professional experience and its relationship with the objectives of the degree: 20%

(Relationship of the applicant's working life with the objectives of the degree. With this criterion, we seek to assess the applicant's professional or academic link to cultural industries or activities of production, management and promotion of culture. Among these, preference will be given to those applicants in leadership roles, and those linked to activities of Culture and Development and International Cooperation.)

Interview with applicants (motivation): 10%

(The interview has the objective of elucidating as much as possible the motivation of the student to carry out the master's degree. The applicant's reasons for taking the degree, activities where he intends to apply the knowledge and skills offered by the degree, study or professional plans will be assessed. futures etc

The results and evaluation of each student during the selection process will be filed in their file.

Offer of places: 60 seats. If the minimum number of students envisaged is not reached in a course, the University may choose not to open the teaching group.

The Quality Assurance System of the Rey Juan Carlos University establishes that the degree's Quality Assurance Commission will annually analyze the information derived from the degree's indicators and prepare a report that will include improvement plans if the results so indicate.

Renewal of accreditation

The renewal of the accreditation represents the culmination of the implementation process of the official Bachelor's and Master's degrees registered in the Register of Universities, Centers and Degrees (RUCT). The renewal of the accreditation of official bachelor's and master's degrees is organized in three phases: self-assessment report, external visit and final assessment.
