Presentation and competitions

Home

The proposed interuniversity doctoral program in tourism arises from the coordination and cooperation between research teams with a track record in social-scientific knowledge of tourism and in accredited training programs, including currently existing doctoral programs at the Universities of Alicante, Malaga , King Juan Carlos and Seville. This cooperation framework is based on the Interuniversity Network of Postgraduate Studies in Tourism (REDINTUR), made up of 25 Universities with postgraduate studies in Tourism, which has been qualified in the National Tourism Plan 2012-2015 of the Ministry of Energy, Industry and Tourism, within the Talent and Entrepreneurship section as a strength, highlighting its operation and training programs in Tourism.

Objectives

Under this framework, the research lines of the different groups of the different Universities previously specified have been united and coordinated, with the aim of collaborating and promoting training and research in Tourism in Spain. Broadly speaking, we can indicate the objectives and commitments that have been set:

  • Contribute to the training of doctors and researchers in Tourism to promote the growth of the social and economic environment.
  • Promote research to be able to carry out efficient management of information that allows management to be adapted to the profile of the tourist consumer.
  • Develop analysis and research techniques for their adaptation to the evolution of the information society.
  • Promote cooperation between Universities and the mobility of students and teaching staff.
  • Collaborate in innovation and competitiveness in the field of tourism.
  • Develop a complete and complex academic curriculum model that is committed to the multidisciplinary nature of tourism training within the University.
  • Full adaptation of the level of university tourism studies in our country to that existing within the European Union and other neighboring countries, culminating the process begun with integration into the university system in 1996.
  • Achieve the standardization of higher studies in tourism with that corresponding to other areas of training in other economic and professional sectors.
  • Development of specialization profiles in areas that allow taking into account the innovation needs required by business management and tourism destinations

Program Admission Criteria

In addition to the access requirements established by RD 99/2011, the presentation of a Doctoral Thesis Project proposal is established as a general criterion for admission, which must be integrated into one of the three research teams and in a specific line of research. those indicated in the program. The applicant, in addition, may propose a tutor and thesis director, although it is up to the Academic Committee to designate the tutoring of the thesis. In the event that the demand for places exceeds the offer, which will be 15 students (10 full-time and 5 part-time), in each academic year, the Academic Committee will conduct a personal interview with the applicants.

The objective admission criteria will be linked to academic requirements, other merits related to research and accredited knowledge of a foreign language commonly used in the scientific community to which the doctoral program belongs. In short, the criteria will be based on the merit and capacity of the applicants, according to their academic certificates of the Bachelor's and Master's degrees completed and the Curriculum Vitae.

For these purposes, admission will be governed by the weighted criteria as follows:

  • Academic record of the degree of access to the doctoral program (30%)
  • Academic record of the master's degree for access to the doctoral program (40%)
  • The existence of letters of introduction by university professors or other research institutions, who have direct knowledge of the capacity and competence of the applicant (5%)
  • Research experience or other merits related to research (20%).
  • Accredited knowledge of a foreign language commonly used in the scientific community to which the doctoral program belongs (5%).

In the event of a tie, the Academic Committee will conduct a personal interview with the different applicants. The evaluation criteria of said interview will be:

  • Knowledge of the program (25%)
  • The candidate's interest in their lines of research and the consistency of the interview with the cover letter(s) delivered (50%)
  • Willingness, motivation and personal commitment of the candidate to complete their thesis project (25%)

Access Profile

The recommended academic profile for students who want to access this PD is that of a Graduate in Tourism, Economics, Business Administration and Management, Geography and Sociology and similar qualifications in skills to those listed. Regarding the Master's Degree studies that give access to this PD, it corresponds especially to the graduates in Master's in International Tourism Management and Master's in International Tourism Management from the URJC or the Official Master's Degree in Tourism Management and Planning or equivalent, taught by the universities of the Intur Network. Students who do not meet the access profile, coming from other master's degrees from different branches or not specialized in Tourism, will necessarily have to take Specific Training Complements. Where appropriate, the Academic Committee of the Program will indicate what training supplements the students who do not have direct access to the program need.

In relation to the languages appropriate to the entry profile, in addition to Spanish, level B1 of English will be required.

Renewal of accreditation

The renewal of the accreditation represents the culmination of the implementation process of the official Bachelor's and Master's degrees registered in the Register of Universities, Centers and Degrees (RUCT). The renewal of the accreditation of official bachelor's and master's degrees is organized in three phases: self-assessment report, external visit and final assessment.

In the first phase, the university describes and assesses the status of the degree with respect to the established criteria and guidelines. The result is the Self-Assessment Report (IA) that is presented. The second and third phases are carried out by a group of evaluators external to the evaluated title.”
