The University Extension Course in European and Comparative Law is especially oriented to particular sectors in demand in the areas of legal practice, especially that of an international nature. This training program is the result of the academic collaboration of the Rey Juan Carlos University with the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.
The modules taught in this training program have great socioeconomic relevance that is evident in the usual practice of business law, of interest to those who work or want to work in law firms, corporate legal consultancies or institutions. international.
The University Extension course in European and Comparative Law offers an opportunity for students from Spain, Latin America, Europe and the international scene; whether undergraduate, postgraduate, doctorate or professional field, deepen their understanding of European Law (with a specialty in the Spanish Legal System) as a relevant legal system in the global context, with a special focus on those common subjects in the context of the international business and professional activities.
Students from Spain, Latin America, Europe and internationally, being immersed in legal systems of their own tradition, can benefit from exploring the differences and similarities with European and continental systems. In a globalized world, knowledge of European Law on the global stage becomes a valuable skill.
Objectives
The University Extension Course in European and Comparative Law” seeks to meet the training needs of undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral and professional students, in accordance with a globalized scenario, which affects the need to make the student aware of the legal foundations, the foundations of fundamental sectors of European and continental law focused on international business.
Through this course it is intended to transmit the aforementioned fundamentals to students of Spanish, Latin American, European and international origin in such a way that the training received is a useful tool in their academic training and professional perspectives, especially for those who want to dedicate themselves to business advocacy in the international arena.
Program
Module 1.- International Investment Arbitration. - This module will focus on the study of the legal instruments and procedures that govern disputes between investors and States at the European and continental level. Reference will be made to the fundamental aspects of international arbitration, referring to emblematic cases and analyzing the evolution of investment treaties in the European and comparative context.
Module 2.- Company law. - This module will address corporate structures and their legal regime in connection with the most important commercial contracting instruments in the European Union in a comparative context. The course will address aspects such as company formation and commercial contracting in a cross-border world. Participants will understand the complexities and challenges in cross-border business in Europe and Spain.
Module 3.- Intellectual Property. - In this module the legal framework that protects creativity and innovation will be studied. The similarities and differences between intellectual property systems in various European countries and in comparison with international standards will be reflected on. After completing this module, students will have acquired a solid knowledge of how intellectual property legislation operates in the European context and in a global environment.
Module 4.- Energy transition and environment. – This part of the training program will expand on the analysis of the legal framework that regulates the evolution towards more sustainable energy sources to guarantee environmental protection in the European Union and its States. Participants will learn about the regulatory dynamics used to address environmental problems and achieve a balance between economic development and environmental conservation in the European Union, the Member States and Spain.
Module 5.- Cybersecurity, Data Protection and Artificial Intelligence. – In this module, the connection between new technologies and legal frameworks that try to guarantee security and privacy in the European Union, Member States and Spain will be studied. Data protection legislation, the strategic framework of cybersecurity and the emerging regulation of Artificial Intelligence will be addressed.
Module 6.- The practice of law in the European and Ibero-American scenario. - The sessions of this module will be taught in the international law firms Cuatrecasas and Garrigues, as well as in the Senate of Spain. The objective of this module is to bring students closer to the dynamics of the practice of international business law and the Spanish parliamentary system, fundamental in the legislative dynamics of the State. To do this, fundamentally practical issues will be addressed in a real scenario: law firms and institutions.

Access requirements: Students in at least the second year of their degree or equivalent studies.
Selection criteria:
In the event that the number of applications exceeds the number of places offered, a selection will be made based on the following criteria:
- 80% Average grade of the academic record.
- 20% Professional experience, which will be weighted based on the entry profile.

Duration and development
Modality: Face-to-face
Number of credits: 5 ECTS credits.
Contact hours: 50 hours.
Place of delivery: 40 contact hours will be taught at the Rey Juan Carlos University (Vicálvaro Campus)
10 hours will be taught in the Senate of Spain and in the Garrigues and Cuatrecasas law offices.
Schedules: 10.00:14.00 a.m. to XNUMX:XNUMX p.m. every day except for training sessions in law offices and institutional visits that will take place in the afternoon.

Possibility of scholarship (if applicable): No scholarships.
Pre-registration: €. This amount is included in the total cost of the course and will be returned if your academic request is not accepted. If, once the student's application has been admitted, the enrollment is not formalized, the amount deposited for pre-enrolment will not be returned.
The start of the course is conditioned to the minimum number of students enrolled.

Students with a degree obtained from a Spanish university or a Higher Education Institution belonging to another Member State of the European Higher Education Area that authorizes access to own postgraduate degrees must present the following documentation:

Students with a foreign degree must present the following documentation:
- Passport or Residence Card
- Foreign Higher Education Degree (Graduate, Graduate, Architect, Engineer Doctor...) that give access to own postgraduate degree studies.
- Certificate certifying that the studies carried out give access to an Official Postgraduate Degree in your country of origin, issued by the University of origin

Applicants with studies completed in foreign University Centers may be requested at any time a certificate of verification of these studies and centers, issued by an authorized Institution.
