Basic Information

What knowledge will I acquire with this Degree?

The training of pharmacists will guarantee that the following knowledge and skills have been acquired (Directive 2005/36/CEE):

  • Adequate knowledge of medicines and the substances used in their manufacture;
  • Adequate knowledge of pharmaceutical technology and physical, chemical, biological and microbiological testing of drugs;
  • Adequate knowledge of the metabolism and effects of drugs, as well as the action of toxic substances and the use of drugs;
  • Adequate knowledge for the evaluation of scientific data relating to medicinal products, in order to be able to provide adequate information on the basis of that knowledge;
  • Adequate knowledge of the legal and other requirements related to the practice of pharmacy.

Where will I be able to work when I graduate?

Among the main fields of practice for the pharmacist, we highlight the pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, pharmaceutical distribution, pharmaceutical industry, food industry, environmental health, clinical analysis, public health, analysis of medicines and drugs, health management, Public Administration, research and teaching.

The pharmaceutical profession therefore offers ample employment opportunities, both in our Community and in the national and European environment, as there is a demand for professional pharmacists in countries such as the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Recommended Income Profile

The admission profile for the Degree in Pharmacy at the URJC is that of a person who has an interest in matters related to Health Sciences in general, and in Pharmacy and the world of medicines in particular, and a sensitivity towards the importance and attention that public health deserves in all the social and labor spheres in which it is developed.

The student must also have an interest in science, especially in experimental sciences related to pharmacy.

As a student, you must also have the capacity for work, attention and concentration, analysis and synthesis skills, logical reasoning, rigor and attention to detail, sensitivity to social problems and attention to others.

Objectives 

The objective of the teachings of the Degree in Pharmacy is the training of expert professionals in medicine and its impact on health, integrated with other professionals in a context of comprehensive health care.

On the other hand, and from a health point of view, in our country, the interest in pharmacy studies is related to the role that these professionals play in the context of the health system: they are the guarantors that the pharmaceutical product is delivered to the final recipients in the conditions and with the necessary controls to ensure the quality and safety of the pharmacotherapy.

Specific Competences

Minimum stay requirements 

  • The permanence of the students in the Degree studies will be a maximum of eight years for full-time students. Part-time students may request an extension of up to two more years from the Rector.
  • In Bachelor's degrees lasting more than 240 credits (4 years), the maximum of the previous section will be increased by one more year for every 60 ECTS credits that are added to the 240 ECTS.
  • Students must pass a minimum of two subjects in the first year. Students studying part-time must pass at least one subject in their first academic year.
  • Students who are studying any official Bachelor's degree at the Rey Juan Carlos University may make a maximum of four registrations to pass each of the subjects of the study plan, without counting previous cancellations of the same.

Regarding the recommended entry profile, there is no restriction other than that established by law (PAU): LOGSE Baccalaureate students can access from all routes: Scientific-Technological, Health Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Arts. COU students have access from all options. Lastly, second grade vocational training students, and level 3 modules, all options. As well as from higher training cycles.

SUPERVISED INTERNSHIPS

The objective of the Supervised Practices is for students to acquire the necessary training to carry out the specific activities of their profession in the field of Pharmacy Assistance. The students within their training itinerary are integrated into the professional activity of the Community Pharmacy and/or the Hospital Pharmacy, acquiring a first professional experience and putting into practice the knowledge, skills and attitudes required in relation to the preparation, control, dispensing and medication advice.

Orientation to future students. The University offers various orientation programs for future students: we carry out visits to high schools and secondary schools, we organize guided visits to the Campuses, we are present in the Classroom and, at the beginning of each course, we carry out welcome days to guide students new students.

academic tutorials. Each teacher carries out, within their teaching planning, academic tutorials on their subject.

Coordinator of the degree. It works to promote coherence and balance between the subjects and the workloads of the students.

mentoring program. The URJC has this program, peer tutoring, in which the students of the last years act as mentors with the first year students.

Students with disabilities. The Support Office for Persons with Disabilities offers guidance and assistance to students with special needs.

Scholarships . The Quality Assurance System of the Rey Juan Carlos University establishes that the degree's Quality Assurance Commission will annually analyze the information derived from the degree's indicators and prepare a report that will include improvement plans if the results so indicate.

Renewal of accreditation

The renewal of the accreditation represents the culmination of the implementation process of the official Bachelor's and Master's degrees registered in the Register of Universities, Centers and Degrees (RUCT). The renewal of the accreditation of official bachelor's and master's degrees is organized in three phases: self-assessment report, external visit and final assessment.

In the first phase, the university describes and assesses the status of the degree with respect to the established criteria and guidelines. The result is the Self-Assessment Report (IA) that is presented. The second and third phases are carried out by a group of evaluators external to the evaluated title.”
