What knowledge will I acquire with this Master?

The Master in Art Market Management is designed to provide the student with the precise knowledge necessary to function in the professional environment of any of the current Art Market sectors. The knowledge they will acquire is focused, therefore, on the management of artistic and collectible goods within the commercial environment, taking into account the legal and economic context.

The master's degree is aimed at those who want to develop a professional future between works of art and collecting, since by studying it they will learn the operation and work carried out within auction houses, art galleries, art consultancies, appraisal companies, investment in art, etc.

The subjects taught focus on the work of property management within all the activities that take place in the day-to-day of the art market. For this reason, the sectors and agents that converge in the art market and its operation, the legal system that governs it, the particular means of selling works of art and its operation, etc., are studied. And all this structured in subjects that are taught combining the presence of academic professors and market professionals. The subjects are structured:

Thus, the graduates of this Master will be able to work in:

·       Art Galleries carrying out management, sales, public relations and strategic development work.

·       In auction rooms cataloging, valuing and appraising the work of art on the market. Art Consulting. Advice to private collectors and institutions and in the formation of their collections and investment in art. Use art as an innovative means for the development of corporate image projects, marketing, human resources, social responsibility. Collection management, advice on acquisitions, intermediation in the purchase and sale of works of art, appraisal and tax studies, corporate collecting, etc.

·       Exhibitions Curator. Practical knowledge in coordination and assembly of exhibitions are essential tools for carrying out exhibition projects with all kinds of institutions such as foundations, art galleries, alternative spaces, town halls and banks.

 

·       Art critic and cultural press. The practical tools in Art Criticism make possible the collaborations in the cultural press and in the elaboration of the texts of artistic catalogs.

Admission and enrollment

Admission:

The requirements for access to the proposed title are according to article 18, of Royal Decree 822/2021, of September 28:

  1. Possession of an official Spanish Graduate or Graduate university degree or equivalent is a condition for accessing a Master's Degree, or, where appropriate, having another University Master's degree, or titles of the same level as the Spanish Bachelor's or Master's degree issued by universities and higher education institutions in an EHEA country that in that country allow access to Master's degrees.
  2. In the same way, people in possession of titles from educational systems that are not part of the EHEA, which are equivalent to a Bachelor's degree, will be able to access a Master's Degree in the Spanish university system, without the need for homologation of the title, but verification by of the university of the level of training that they imply, as long as in the country where said title was issued it allows access to university postgraduate level studies. In no case will access through this route imply the homologation of the previous degree held by the person concerned or its recognition for other purposes than that of carrying out the Master's degree.

The Master's Degree in Art Market Management is aimed at university graduates with a broad and diverse profile, ranging from students with a clearly humanist bias (graduates in History, Art History, Fine Arts and Humanities), to students trained in finance, business, law and financial advice who want to channel their knowledge and experience towards the management of the Art Market and the knowledge of the sectors and agents in this type of assets (students of the Degree in Business Administration and Management, Degree in Economics and Degree in Law mainly)

  • Students with professional experience in any of the different areas of heritage, art, artistic assets, their conservation, restoration and fraud, or financial advice, as long as they have a Bachelor's, Diploma or Graduate university degree.

Selection of applicants:

The selection of applicants, in the event that demand exceeds supply, will be carried out by submitting a standardized curriculum with the specific profile required, preferably graduates in Art History, History and Business Administration and a personal interview. by the director of the Master. The following criteria will be considered for selection:

  • Average grade of the Academic Record (60%)
  • Training courses related to the contents of the master's degree (30%)
  • English Language Accreditation B2 (10%)

Offer of places: 50 seats. If the minimum number of students envisaged is not reached in a course, the University may choose not to open the teaching group.

External Internships

The External Practices subject is a curricular subject whose main objective is to promote a comprehensive training of the student through the practical application of the knowledge acquired during the Master's degree, which facilitates direct contact with the professional activity and the opportunity to join the professional world with a minimum of experience. All practices are designed so that the students who participate in them acquire professional experience in real situations and conditions, applying the knowledge, skills and attitudes that are acquired in the training processes throughout the degree. The internships represent a decisive opportunity for the personal development and professional future of the students.

Internships are activities carried out by the student in companies, institutions and organizations; that is, in centers outside the university premises, which aim to enrich and complement their university education, while providing them with a deeper knowledge about the skills they will need in the future.

The External Practices subject will consist of two phases.

First. Completion of the internship period that offers professional experience related to any of the profiles that are expressed in the Verification Report of the degree.

Mobility programs

University Master's degrees, due to their duration and characteristics, in general do not specifically contemplate the mobility of their students.
